Pure and sensual,

This is my favorite of Mong-Lan's books of poems. As the title suggests, the poems are filled with love that use food to give a glimpse into the pure and sensual nature of what exists in some of the deepest parts of our souls or psyche.
Pleasure and the purity (white innocence) of silky/soft (tofu texture) fill the mind and heart with different hues and sensations. Mong-Lan is a master for making the inner emotions swing with her lovely words, to produce one sound out of two strings, like a violin player. Very touching, inspiring, and wonderful, are but a few words that come to mind.

I really enjoyed this book. For me, it proceeded at two different levels. Mong-Lan's Love Poems read so easily and so amusingly while also providing some (pun intended) thoughts to chew on as well.
Her poems are beautiful and complex. They carry the reader along many different paths by using words and emotions that are deeply engaging. Having also read some of the poems in her first two books, Song of the Cicadas, and Why is the Edge Always Windy, I look forward to future poems and books from her as well.
