"The Love Potion" was definitely a fun book...it had some great moments..and some REALLY sexy love scenes...the book was a bit silly...but sweet...my main reason for not loving this book? Dr. Silvie Fontaine and bad boy attorney Lucien LeDeux have never gotten along. They've had bad blood between them since childhood. But they've also carried an attraction for the other that neither of them will acknowledge aloud. Enter into the equation "the jelly bean fix"--a new drug Silvie is working on that has the physical implications of Viagra, while simultaneously stimulating the emotions of the subject--and you have the jist of this novel.

This is Hill at her wittiest and sexiest. The dialogue was hilarious, the relationship between the hero and heroine was intriguing, and the plot threw enough twists and turns to keep my attention. This is the perfect lighthearted, romantic comedy to read if you need a little pick-me-up.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Way to Spend the Weekend!, March 20, 2002
This review is from: The Love Potion (Time of Your Life) (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved this book. I don't think I have laughed so much while reading a book in a while. Luc and Sylvie are great! Sylvie has created a love potion that is taken in the form of a jelly bean. It has not yet been tested on humans only on her furry companions Sampson and Delhila and it has been very very sucessfull with them. They can't keep their paws off each other. Luc is a dark, sexy cajun, lawyer who is known as "the swamp lawyer" has to ask Sylvie a favor. He would rather die then have to do that! While he is busy tormenting and teasing her he eats one of her special jelly beans. What happens when two people who despise (not!) each other are now drawn to each other? Why they help to keep the Louisiana bayou all the steamier of course! Throw in some danger from those that feel Sylvie is messing with Voodoo, Luc's 78 year old aunt with purple hair who rides a Harley and knits things for Luc's hopechest, two horney rats in a Happy Meal box, and you have the makings of a great weekend read!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read....., December 18, 1999
By
This review is from: The Love Potion (Time of Your Life) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first book I have read of Ms Hill's and if this story is any indication of what she is capable of, then I have to say I have been missing out on some fantastic books. I am truly hooked on this author now and I am going to dig her other books out and read them as soon as possible. Lucien LeDeux has been labeled 'bad boy of the bayou' since childhood and for good reason, as he has made the label a self-fulfilling prophecy with his audacious teasing of the Creole-born Sylvie Fontaine. He issues a threat to her at a school dance when they were both thirteen, that they would one day slow dance in the nude. Now twenty years later, he still feels a strong urge to shock and dismay her. Luc is a lawyer and his brother's dilemma demands that he seek Sylvie's expertise as a chemist to test contaminated bayou water for oil spillage from his father's company. Upon his arrival in her lab, he encounters her in the midst of a secret experiment and as always he 'rattles her cage' and in the chaos he unintentionally eats her jelly beans that is loaded with a love potion that she has invented. She was on the verge of testing it on a human subject and is freaked out when her childhood nemesis gulps down the potion that she knows will make him sexually hungry for her. At this point is when the fun begins! I absolutely loved this story! It is outrageously funny and the romance is wonderful. Not only was the story of the hero and heroine great but the secondary characters were enjoyable as well, from Luc's lovable little aunt Tante Lulu to Samson and Delilah, Sylvie's 'in love lab rats', this story held my interest from the first to the last page. This book is a romance reader's dream!

5.0 out of 5 stars This one is worthy of a 6th star!, December 29, 1999

This review is from: The Love Potion (Time of Your Life) (Mass Market Paperback)
Sandra Hill sure knows how to get her readers' attention! This book was wonderful from start to finish. I loved the story and the characters.

Sylvie a "Creole Princess", has been tormented for years by Luc, the "Swamp Solicitor", and now she's stuck with him - at least until the love potion he inadvertently consumed wears off. But what the unlikely twosome don't count on is being on the run together.

Hilarious! This well written romp will keep you chuckling even after the last page has turned.

Here's hoping Ms. Hill plans stories for Luc's brothers and his sister. If they're as good as this one, I'd buy them in a second. I guar-an-tee!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious romp in the Southern Louisiana bayous!, October 1, 2001
This review is from: The Love Potion (Time of Your Life) (Mass Market Paperback)
This book deserves more than 5 stars! Sandra Hill is by far my favorite author. She blends a perfect dash of humor with romance and adventure. She didn't dissapoint in this funny tale of a lawyer known as the 'Swamp Solicitor' in Southern Louisiana named Luc LeDeux who walks into a chemist's lab to have a sample tested and accidentally consumes a handful of the chemist's 'love potion' in the form of jelly beans!
The chemist, Dr. Sylvie Fontaine has been working hard on the love potion and hasn't yet had it tested on humans when Luc comes in and eats her potion! What to do?! Well first of all, she is horrified it was taken by the well-known 'bay-boy-of-the-bayou' and the fact that test trails have only been done on rats! Luc is already a walking mix of testosterone and male ego when he takes the potion he is more than straight-laced Sylvie can handle. I was laughing so hard with the things that happen between them and how she tries hard to keep track of his feelings on a notepad and how she asks him the most personal questions to find out how well her potion is working! Will the potion cause them to fall in love or will it fade away? Is someone trying to steal the potion? This book will keep you turning the pages to find out and along the way, you meet some very funny characters including Luc's wily aunt Lulu who can't stop meddling into his love life, his two nosey brothers and his sister who thinks everyone ought to have 'pouf' in their hair. This is a sure pleaser and right along track with Ms Hill's usual flair and wit. The love scenes are HOT with a capital H and what I love most about Ms Hill's female characters are that they are never really gorgeous or beautiful on the outside, just normal, average women with realistic problems. But her men...ugh, they are ALWAYS gorgeous and sexy! Makes one wish they were real! Give this book a try, its well worth the money! By the way, if you read her other books, namely 'Frankly My Dear...', there is a mention in this book of the characters and places...enjoy :)

4.0 out of 5 stars Recipe for Love Potion, June 5, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Love Potion (Time of Your Life) (Mass Market Paperback)
Add one aristocratic and extremely shy Creole chemist; one sexy cajun `Bad Boy of the Bayou", and a bowlful of "special doctored" jelly beans, and you get a steamy, lighthearted, romantic comedy set in the heart of The Big Easy.

Dr. Silvie Fontaine has invented a real live honest-to-goodness love potion. Experimenting, she places the potion along with her own enzimes, into a bowlful of jellybeans to use later on her volunteer test subjects. Imagine her horror when they get accidently eaten by her childhood nemesis, Lucien LeDeux, bad boy attorney with a penchent for "slooooow dancing".....and that's when the fun begins....

LOVE POTION is filled with romantic sparring, playful erotic chemsitry and delightfully kooky supporting players (not to mention a couple of ....um.....lovesick lab rats) set in the steamy atmosphere of New Orleans. If you like your romance with a touch of comedy, you'll have a great time with this book.

As they say in the Big Easy, LOVE POTION is a little bit of laniappe. Read when you want some lighthearted fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Fantastic Book by Sandra Hill!, December 14, 1999
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Love Potion (Time of Your Life) (Mass Market Paperback)
Sandra Hill has done it again. She has written a great book full of humor and sexual "Chemistry" between the Hero/Heroine! Here's what the back blurb says: "Yep! Fame and fortune are surely only a swallow away when Dr. Sylvie Fontaine discovers a chemical formula guaranteed to attract the oppostie sex. Though her own love lif is purely hypothetical, the shy chemist's professional future is asured...as soon as she can find a human guinea pig. The only problem is the wrong man has swallowed Sylvie's love potion. Bad boy Lucien LeDeux is more than she can handle even before he's dosed with the Jelly Bean Fix. The wildly virile lawyer is the last person she'd choose to subject to the scientific method." Full of fun, its a fast moving romp! I'd highly recommend The Love Potion

4.0 out of 5 stars Delightfully funny and sexy, March 6, 2006
This review is from: The Love Potion (Time of Your Life) (Mass Market Paperback)
Want to spend a lazy day entertained? Then look no further than Sandra Hill's THE LOVE POTION.

Ever since they were kids, Lucien LeDeux, commonly referred to as "The Bad Boy of the Bayou", and Sylvie Fontaine have been throwing barbs at each other. With Luc's arrogance and wickedness, painfully shy Sylvie is the perfect person for him to bait. Now two decades later, peace is yet to be declared between the two. Then one day, Luc is forced to ask for Sylvie's help. Against her will, Sylvie is left with no choice but to agree when Luc inadvertently eats the jelly beans, which she has injected with the love potion she has discovered. And this is when all hell breaks lose...

Man, oh, man! Those Cajun men are smoking! Luc is absolutely sexy. I loved how the author has depicted him, the way he's been described is just so vivid that I have this mental picture of how he looks, the way he swaggers when he walks, and how gorgeous his grin is especially when he teases Sylvie and asks her, "Hey, chere, you wanna dance?" I swear that these two sizzle together.

Throw in some really witty and wicked dialogues, a few more sexy Cajun men who could dance your skirts off you, and then two horny love rats that give new meaning to the Happy meal box, and you are in for a lot of laughs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magic Jelly Beans Helps a Cajun Laywer and Creole Chemist Fall in Love, October 30, 2005
By
Dakota "daxydakota" (Southern California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Love Potion (Time of Your Life) (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved THE LOVE POTION by Sandra Hill. I can't believe how hard I laughed reading this romance! It was unbelievably cute and fun!

The gist of the story is that painfully shy, blue-blooded Creole Sylvie - a chemist - creates a love potion in the form of a jellybean. The problem is that an incredibly hot Cajun lawyer named Luc has accidentally eaten the jelly beans, and now is suffering its aftereffects of wanting and needing Sylvie. This is problem because Sylvie can't stand Luc, who teased her unmercifully all her life. What she doesn't know is that Luc teased her because he always liked her, but he never thought a goody-two-shoes Creole princess would fall for the "Bad Boy of the Bayou."

This story is witty and tender and has a surprising amount of interesting secondary characters, including Luc's crazy Cajun family and Sylvie's own uptight Creole relatives. But more importantly, this book really delves into Luc and Sylvie's thoughts and feelings, and you really get to know them, insecurities and all. I love how they are both vulnerable. I love how sweet and tender Luc is, and how Sylvie finally learns to stand up for herself. I just love them as a couple, period.

I also love the descriptions of Southern Louisiana!!! The story was well-written, descriptive, and interesting, and the characters all enjoyable. My only complaint is that we never find out who was casting voodoo curses on Sylvie and why, but that wasn't a big deal. It was still a satisfying romance with a to-die-for hero. This was my second Sandra Hill novel. I will definitely be reading more!

**For those interested, the series includes THE LOVE POTION, TALL DARK AND CAJUN, THE CAJUN COWBOY, and THE RED-HOT CAJUN.**

What a fun book. Crazy characters who you just fall in love with and mix into that voodoo spells and cajun legends. Bad boy Luc has always loved prissy Sylvie but never able to admit it and same goes for Sylvie. A love potion helped them overcome their blinders. Find out what crazy things they do in the name of love. Meet Luc's crazy Tante Lulu what a riot with her chickens and statues for lost causes. You find yourself laughing out of your seat.
