5.0 out of 5 stars Shame on the majors
I've been listening to Ms. Doss since 2004, when I purchased XM Radio. I was amazed that I'd never heard anything before. Yeah, alot of people compare her to the "well-knowns", but the arrangements that she's capable of and her smoky vocals are head and shoulders above many that we claim lead the "neo-soul" revolution. Don't get me wrong, I love Jill, India and all the...

I was slightly disappointed, I heard her other cds and wanted those so bad, but unable to get them, so when this was released I had to get it, knowing it would be just as great. I did not like this effort as much as the others but still good and better than alot of the R&B artists out now. So for those new to Ms. Doss please check out the other cds before making an...

Don't get me wrong, I love Jill, India and all the likes, but every now and then a lyrical genius moves among the crowd and quickly gets dismissed by all of the over-commercialization (smile) of a genre. Conya Doss's music is just straight up soul...anything she would attempt to put into a musical category accepted by all would diminish her shine. She sings of this wholeheartedly and honestly in "Only Be Me"...and I wouldn't want her any other way.

Please lets stop sleeping on artists of their own design. There's music waiting for our ears and soul.

4.0 out of 5 stars Conya Doss Puts It Down Once More!, February 8, 2007
This review is from: Love Rain Down (Audio CD)
I've been listening to Conya Doss for some time now. She exploded on the underground music scene back in 2002 with A Poem About Ms. Doss and later followed that album up with an equally impressive sophomore disc titled Just Because in 2004. You would think after two magnificent albums that the labels would come knocking down her door to sign her. But this special needs teacher from Cleveland settled for sold out nightclubs and a modest following instead. Fans of her work pondered if they would be delighted with another soulful helping from the songstress. Luckily for us, Conya Doss isn't through with music quite yet. Her latest album Love Rain Down is just as strong as her previous two offerings.

"Tell Me Why" questions the motives behind hurting a lover's heart. "Find A Way" tells about the long-standing adage that there's brighter days beyond any storms that you encounter throughout your life. "Call Me" is a more up-tempo song that just has a fun vibe to enjoy. "Let You Know" reverts back to a more familiar sound with drawn out notes and soft-spoken words. "Only Be Me" is an inspirational song on being truthful about who you are and appreciating the gift of being a unique individual. "Sign" is an acoustic melody that is grounded with simplicity yet soars with emotion.

"Those Wur The Dayz" reflects back on the good times of yesteryear. "Love Rain Down" is a mid-tempo, free-flowing tune about embracing love. "The One" is a mellow cut on knowing that certain someone is the right person for you. She continues that same sentiment on "Beautiful Thing" when she explains that love conquers all. "Nevermind" is a tale about moving on from a relationship that wasn't going anywhere fast. "Why Did You?" is a Caribbean-flavored tune about somebody getting caught up in their own web of deceit. The album closes with the self-explanatory song "Get On My Nerves."

Love Rain Down is more of the same from Conya Doss. Luckily for her (and for us)...that's a good thing.

Conya Doss - Love Rain Down (Conyadosssongs, 2006)

It seems like Conya Doss's vocals improve with every album. Her last album, Just Because, is a hard act to follow but there are still some strong songs here. "Only Be Me" is my favorite song while the Myron-produced ones like "Tell Me Why" and the title track are also great. The only songs I didn't like that much were "Call Me" and "Get on My Nerves". For the latter, Conya could have picked a better guy to sing with than the one featured here. But Conya still shines and I have no idea why isn't more well known. -EJR

Conya's 2nd CD "Just Because" IS a hard act to follow, but "Love Rain Down" does the job. I think this is a great find, especially if you're a Conya fan.

I love how this CD has more uptempo songs, and her voice is as beautiful as ever. The Just Because CD is more mellow, so listening to this one is a nice change. I put both of them in a playlist on shuffle, and they really work together well to give a good mix of music.

Another wonderful thing about this CD is the lyrics. Conya has a way of saying the things we all experience in relationships. While you listen, enjoy the music, her voice, and especially the lyrics...so heartfelt.

Definitely much more variety on this CD which is a good thing.

Fave tracks:
The One - beautiful balled that Conya does ever so well
Sign - another ballad...kinda reminds me of India Arie (but it's great)
Tell Me Why
Find a Way
Love Rain Down - Love this jazzy groove!

You will not be disappointed if you're open to Conya trying something different for her - I like that her music evolved. It's a fun album!

Pick it up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect!!, January 3, 2008

Very balanced, and theraputic(well at least to me). Has a neo-jazz feel vs the neo-soul sound, which probably the reason it sound so good. This cd is definetly for the mature set(no sex me up joints on this), so if you have issues with your lady/man put this cd on and reconcile. Peace

5.0 out of 5 stars A triumph!, February 28, 2011
This review is from: Love Rain Down (Audio CD)
I'm gonna keep it short and sweet for this review. I spotted Ms. Doss' albums on Amazon and previewed a few of the tracks and decided to purchase her albums. Love Rain Down was the 1st one I listened to and this is, by far, one of the BEST albums I have heard in quite some time. Conya doesn't just sing she FEELS the music and pours her soul into it and in turn, you can't help from doing the same thing. I look forward to listening to the rest of her albums.

I was looking for a smoother, slower paced CD. It was a little too up-tempo for me.
