5.0 out of 5 stars Ambrosia from country's Romantic Idealist
Well, I thought the new face of country was going to be populated by the likes of Shania Twain, the Dixie Chicks, and Faith Hill, who carry catchy tunes, cross over to the pop charts (read oat-flavored pop tarts), and who make themselves into pin-ups to push sales. However upon hearing Sherrie Austin's Love In The Real World, it was as if I'd tasted ambrosia instead of...

3.0 out of 5 stars AUSTIN'S SOPHOMORE SIZZLE DAMPENED BY PRODUCTION FIZZLE
On her sophomore release, Sherrié Austin attempts to capitalize on the buzz created by her debut album, WORDS, by creating an upbeat country/pop album capable of competing against the likes of Faith Hill and Martina McBride. She is largely successful, but not without some hitches along the way.

The album is replete with likeable, catchy melodies that will have...

5.0 out of 5 stars Ambrosia from country's Romantic Idealist, June 26, 2002
This review is from: Love In The Real World [ENHANCED CD] (Audio CD)
Well, I thought the new face of country was going to be populated by the likes of Shania Twain, the Dixie Chicks, and Faith Hill, who carry catchy tunes, cross over to the pop charts (read oat-flavored pop tarts), and who make themselves into pin-ups to push sales. However upon hearing Sherrie Austin's Love In The Real World, it was as if I'd tasted ambrosia instead of sugar. The music is, to quote from "All The Love A Heart Can Hold," "sweet as honeysuckle on the vine." But honeysuckle and nectar might also be what flows in her veins as well.

It is pop-like in places, and even features mandolins, bazoukis, and electric sitars. The catchy "Never Been Kissed," "Little Bird," "Heart Hold On," "Heart To Heart," and "All That Matters" could easily have been singles on either chart. And she can hold her own ballad-wise--check out "That's No Way To Break A Heart" and the closer "Wish," which in the beginning, has her being granted a wish from an angel, and she wishes for her dear one to always love her instead of wishing for an end to poverty or war. At the song's end, she uses 20/20 hindsight and says she would have used her one wish to have three wishes, and THEN wish for all three. Intuitive and genuine, Sherrie!

The only deviation to her themes is the title track, which might be a romantic's dream gone sour due to reality. "What happens to happy-ever-after" she asks of a typical couple living in the modern age?

Sherrie's got the same vocal pitch as Susanna Hoffs, sugary but with her own brand of sass. And there are no songs about pick-up trucks, divorces, abused spouses, etc. Take a trip through her mind and you'll discover a tried and true idealist, someone who sings of feelings and love rather than mundane everyday things (except for the title track). She also kicks herself a bit for being selfish in "Wish," which romantics do at times. The sad thing is that her brand of country isn't pushing units like the big three above, but the good thing is that she's doing her own thing, standing out from the crowd as a true romantic. There's hope in her songs. So far, she hasn't gone the tarting up route as Shania or Faith. Keep it up, Princess Charming, and stay authentic!

5.0 out of 5 stars Only The Beginning, March 13, 2000

Sherrie Austin is much more than just a beautiful face. She has a very distinct voice and style that is very refreshing in a time where it seems record companies are recording far to many sound-a-like singers. I enjoyed every song on the CD which is unusual, most times CD's have a couple of good ones and a bunch of fillers.

5.0 out of 5 stars I underwent a conversion!, December 29, 1999

This CD by Sherrie Austin was an impulse buy after listening to "Never Been Kissed" on the radio. I've never been much of a country fan, but after being exposed to this album, I'm hooked. The songs stay in my head thoughout the day; a nice variety of upbeat tunes, slow ballads, and good stories. I find myself reaching for this CD again and again. I feel like I've found a secret treasure of music! If only more of these songs would get radio play - this is the perfect album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sherrie's Dead On!, September 28, 2003
By
This review is from: Love In The Real World [ENHANCED CD] (Audio CD)
In her second album, Sherrie Austin does the unthinkable: She lives up to her first (a hard feat for many artists!). In Love in the Real World, Sherrie lets it loose with up tempo, thoughtful songs. The only real tradgedy of the CD is that the radio decided to ignore it. Sad loss for them and any music fan that didn't have the privilege of hearing this album. Highlights include the awesome up-tempo "All that Matters" and "All the Love a Heart Can Hold", plus the sincere "Wish" and "That's No Way to Break a Heart" (a lighter, earthier version of the same song from her first album--Sherrie was hoping to release it as a single, but due to record label troubles it never happened. Pity. )
Bottom Line: Love in the Real World is one of those albums you can listen to over and over a hundred times and never get tired of it. (trust me- I know from personal experience!)

5.0 out of 5 stars A real winner of a CD, March 24, 2001
This review is from: Love In The Real World [ENHANCED CD] (Audio CD)
Sherrie Austin has an amazing vocal clarity combined with a fresh and entrancing sound. There are no dud tracks on this album; it is all top quality. Although it is envidious to pick any one track as better than the others on this album, "All the love a heart can hold" does stand out and displays the quality of this talented young singer. Country music needs more like this, and I can't wait for her next album.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very listenable collection.., January 16, 2001

I own Sherrie Austins first album 'Words', and thought it couldn't get any better. When I found out about 'Never Been Kissed' I went out and bought it, thinking only she could outdo herself. She did just that. Each song is very catchy and well written. It's good to see an artist have such a prominent hand in the writing of the songs. It gives them personality. I don't think S.A. gets nearly enough airplay for as good as she is. She is one of country musics' best, underplayed artists. I enjoy the entire album every time I hear it. A very, VERY listenable collection of music.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gets better with each listen, December 15, 1999
By
This review is from: Love In The Real World [ENHANCED CD] (Audio CD)
At first I was disappointed that Sherrie doesn't cut loose and let 'er rip like she did on her first CD with "Lucky In Love" and "Put Your Heart Into It." Most of this CD is decidedly mid-tempo, but the melodies are rich and the songs tell good stories that the everyday person can relate to. That's what makes this CD more interesting with each listen. With her beautiful and unique voice, Austin could make a good album out of lesser material. The only annoyance: it's tough to wait until cut #9 for the rockin' title song, which is the best on the CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Aussie's Pop Gem, December 12, 1999
This review is from: Love In The Real World [ENHANCED CD] (Audio CD)
This Australian beauty can do it all ! The follow up to her debut "Words" is wonderful ! It's nice to find a great singer/songwriter in the country music business. "Never Been Kissed" is only the begining of this well written toe tapping pop gem. "Little Bird" is a outstanding fun song. One of the most melodic tunes out there as we speak. Sherrie's voice is dead on,powerful, soulfull and fun all rolled up in an outstanding sophmore effort. This record is a must for any pop/country fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect, September 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Love In The Real World [ENHANCED CD] (Audio CD)
I have but one thing to ask: Sherrie' baby, why did you have to go and commit the unmentionable -- realeasing the SAME SONG (That's No Way To Break A Heart) in, as far as I can tell, the exact same mix, on both of your first 2 albums??? Really, you're waaaaay too good to need filler. And maybe the song was so great that it just fit the theme of the album perfectly, but you've been there, done that with that song. Wait until you have a Hits album before you re-release it.

Oh, and will you marry me?

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow., September 25, 1999

I have never before bought a country CD, but I just had to get this one. I was just looking through some CD's that you could listen to at a local bookstore, when I saw this CD had a song called Sarah, which is my name. I decided to listen to it and I loved it. It was as if she was speaking straight to me, I had to get the CD. The entire CD is wonderful, and another song I really like is Dreaming Out Loud. I would definitely reccomend buying this CD.
