5.0 out of 5 stars What could be more romantic?, February 7, 2000
This review is from: Love, Remember Me (Angel's Touch) (Mass Market Paperback)
What could be more romantic, or heroic, than a hero who travels across the ages, sacrifices everything, and never gives up seeking his only love. Love, Remember Me is a story that will stay with you long after you've closed the covers. It's eternal theme of everlasting love will delight romance readers everywhere!

4.0 out of 5 stars Angels and Scotland -- you'll love this book, June 14, 1998

I loved the way Cairn searches for Brenna through history, always remembering her, hoping he'll find her and made her remember when they first loved each other. What an appealing hero!

2.0 out of 5 stars Gave me the creeps, September 28, 2011
By
This review is from: Love, Remember Me (Angel's Touch) (Mass Market Paperback)
I should say right off that I was looking for something different, so I have no one to blame but myself for picking up LOVE, REMEMBER ME. The love-is-stronger-than-death storyline is certainly intriguing, I'll give it that.

I didn't think the author did a good enough job fleshing out the original lovers, Cairn and Brynna, and I found this lack harming my overall impressions of this story from its beginning. Since there seemed to be nothing special about these two lovers in the first place, I found myself not really caring about Cairn's quest to meet Brynna again (when she's reborn). I knew that they had great sex after they handfasted, and that she died too young from battle wounds (which I admit is a nice twist -normally, it would be the man who dies after a battle). But, given the brevity of their connection, and the sparse description of their love for each other (as provided by the first chapter), I didn't feel invested in Cairn's undying defiant love for Brynna. He may have impressed heavenly messengers enough to keep him alive through the centuries, but he failed to impress me.

There's a LOT of wait time before Cairn and Brenna (the modern day reincarnation of Cairn's great love) are reunited. Brenna's career as a journalist and her stalled love life/hints and dreams of Cairn take up most of her time. Then there are inserts of Cairn's dreary wait/wander through the centuries, which frankly I just didn't find very compelling. I was putting the book down with no great desire to pick it up again.

Lucifer, aka the Devil, is a minor supporting character. Even though he's vanquished in the end, I found this - bleh; kind of creepy. Note to author: Mentioning more than once that your Washington D.C. location is where "The Exorcist" took place is not the best way to get romantic feelings flowing. The archangels Raphael, Michael and Gabriel (here called Gabrielle and feminized) are also included. The inclusion of angels and demons (and angels vs. demons) was a paranormal touch that wasn't to my taste. I don't fault the author for the way this is presented - it just wasn't enjoyable reading for me, personally.

It was disturbing to me that the author made Brenna's father an Alzheimer's victim. This becomes a major plot point, especially at the end. Most of the time, I don't read contemporary romance novels, and a plot twist like this is probably a good example of why I avoid them. If I want to read romance novels for an escape from reality (and I must admit this is why I usually read them), then I don't want to read about a man stumbling around in frustration, causing food to explode in his microwave; losing the thread of what he's talking about, and getting lost in the woods. Whose wife, by the way, refuses to believe he could have Alzheimer's and is in denial to the point that she won't take him for tests, and a daughter who's too concerned with her love life to insist on her father having these tests. Bleh and double bleh.

One positive thing I can say about reading LOVE, REMEMBER ME is that it confirmed once again that I should keep my distance from contempo-fantasy/paranormal romances.
