5.0 out of 5 stars Really Good folk/pop
This cd is filled with really good laid back folk/pop from 2 former Number One Gun members. The record is a feel good, fun record similar to Sun Kill Moon and Discover America.

3.0 out of 5 stars Hits a few high points, misses the groove
Surrogate is a two-man affair, Chris Keene and able drummer Jordan Mallory (they add members for live shows). They hail from California, but at their best, as in "Problem Solving", they sound a lot like Oasis with a Robert Smith guitar tone, which is fine. The problem is that they only occasionally hit a groove and keep it going. When they do, as in the above, "15" and...

5.0 out of 5 stars Addictive, October 25, 2008
These songs get to you, they relax you, they make you think. They're catchy but not in a "pop" formula way. You can't get them out of your head, but it doesn't annoy you that they're playing in your mind. Makes you feel like taking a nice long drive by yourself.

They hail from California, but at their best, as in "Problem Solving", they sound a lot like Oasis with a Robert Smith guitar tone, which is fine. The problem is that they only occasionally hit a groove and keep it going. When they do, as in the above, "15" and "Photographic", they swing along real cool, a nice consistent beat that moves on out. When they don't, and introduce banjo's and stuff into the mix, they fall into a folk groove that you might either like . . . or hate with a passion. Put me in the latter category, I can't live with country honk.

I'll watch them further, but for me this only has three songs that made my playlist, and the CD went into the box in the closet. To spring again for more plastic from these guys I'll have to hear more of that good indie beat and less cowboy twang.
