As far as compilations go, this one is EASILY better than most. Especially considering it's an 80's comp, and you KNOW how bad many of these can be. However, this is a case of a really good selection of songs, focusing on lost gems that USED to be played back in the 80's, but somehow, they've slipped through the cracks over the years and no longer receive radio exposure. I'm talking about the following-
The Cars- Magic Hall and Oates- Out of Touch 'Til Tuesday- Voices Carry The Tubes- She's a Beauty Crowded House- Something so Strong Richard Marx- Should've Known Better The Motels- Suddenly Last Summer Why don't radio stations play THOSE songs anymore? I seriously have no idea. Trust me, at one time those were all very popular tunes that surely deserve to be remembered today. And you know, I honestly like just about everything on this compilation, and I'm really picky with 80's music. To me that's amazing!! The hugely popular songs that are featured here (such as the Robert Palmer and Tommy Tutone tracks) are really spectacular pop songs as well. I felt the 80's decade was very inconsistent with many artists focusing on making that one big hit to elevate them to success, instead of being an album band (like in the 70's). BUT, the person who put this list of tracks together did a perfect job. You'll be humming these great songs over and over, I guarantee it.

Extremely wide range of 80s hits,
This review is from: I Love Rock & Roll: Hits of the 80's, Vol. 4 (Audio CD)
My husband and I both graduated from high school in 1986, and thus we are huge fans of music from this decade--in fact, our recent wedding was "all 80s!" We own at least 10 80s compilation CDs, and this one is by far the most ecclectic. It contains several of the classic 80s one-hit wonders, such as "867-5309 (Jenny)" and "Voices Carry." There are also good selections from more popular 80s artists, including Pat Benetar's "Hit Me with Your Best Shot," and "Magic" by the Cars. However, it's difficult to understand why certain songs were selected--for instance, why choose Robert Palmer's "Simply Irresistable" over the much bigger hit "Addicted to Love?" Same thing with the choice of "Freeze-Frame" instead of everybody's favorite J. Geils hit, "Centerfold." On the other hand, some of the other less-popular tunes such as "She's a Beauty" and "Something So Strong" are a nice addition which add to the diversity of this collection. Most 80s music lovers like myself are bound to find some--but not all--of their favorites on this album.

Hit me with your best shot and 867-5309 are obvious greats, but the cd is definitly missing other important 80's flavor.
