a superb anthology,

This review is from: Love and Rockets (Mass Market Paperback)
I am a fan of anthologies. Unlike a novel, if you don't care for a particular author or story, the whole book isn't wasted on you. With an anthology you simply turn to the next story. But this go-round I read every story. Sure, some were stronger than others, and had more of a science-fiction feel, but I didn't consider any of them clunkers.
I have a favorite. Don Bingle's took me by surprise. Engagingly told, with characters reminiscent of my high school and college days, I didn't see the end coming. Well done! I recommend buying this collection.

Good Choice For Science Fiction Romance Fans,

Love and Rockets contains short stories by a variety of authors. The book came to my attention when Gini Koch mentioned that a story she had written under another pen name was included in the book. I am not that much of a short story reader but I really enjoyed this book. I also am developing a real appreciation for short story writers. It takes a lot of work to get the plot, character development and world building in a story with so few words. When I started reading I did not remember the name Gini Koch was writing under. As I read the stories I tried to decide which one she wrote. Some were easy to eliminate. Two were by a team of writers; several were by men, one by Jody Lynn Nye, one of Kristine Kathryn Rusch. That still left several possibilities. I finally decided it must by Wanted by Anita Ensal. When I went to Gini's web page I found that I had chosen correctly. There is a lot of really good writing and story telling in Love and Rockets. There is never enough SFR out there. Love and Rockets is full of good stories and is a great choice for SFR fans.

It isn't a bad book if you like very short science fiction stories. There were a few that I liked but more that I did not. Can't recommend very highly.

I was looking for an anthology to distract me while traveling on a business trip, this did the trick! combined my love of light sci-fi/fantasy and my sneaking desire to read a romance story on the down-low every now and then... Just about every story in this book entertained or amused, and I was almost sad when I had finished the book. Inspired me to try to write a story in this combined genre myself - working on ideas now...
