Book Description

August 16, 2011

What do you do if you want a marriage that doesn’t just survive, but thrives? That doesn’t just begin romantically but ends magnificently?

Answer: You do something different.

You’ve seen marriages fail time and again. Even relationships you thought were bulletproof don’t last–or maybe worse—fade away to a cold, gray lovelessness. It’s no wonder that for today’s generation, “getting what you want” is often a substitute for love, and disillusionment about marriage is the new normal.

But you can have a long-term, love-blessed marriage. Whether you’re still considering it, are about to be wed, or have been married for a while and want to make changes, Love, Sex & Happily Ever After delivers an infusion of hope. Author Craig Groeschel clearly and honestly lays out the choices and commitments you can make now to change the way you think and act—to build the relationship you want for the rest of your life.

With an invigorating mix of personal story, practical guidance and biblical truth, Craig invites you into a candid conversation about first dates, sex, communication, integrity, forgiveness, and commitment. Along the way, he shows how you can build a soul-enriching, God-honoring relationship with the one you love…and believe together again in your very own “happily ever after.”

5.0 out of 5 stars When considering this book, say, "I do." November 5, 2011
Format:Paperback
If you're planning on marriage, this book is for you.

If you're wondering if you'll ever get married, pick up this book.

If you are married, don't pass it off as if "you know the content."

This book is a fantastic tool for church small groups to read together, especially for the people in the "young adult" category of the church. The strength of this book is its openness, honesty, and direct discussion on the topic of marriage and how to live it out in a God-honoring way. And for small groups, the book is outfitted with a study guide which is great for a group-read setting.

All throughout the book Groeschel does a wonderful job exposing marriage with a light beaming Biblical perspective and gut-level honesty. He shares his personal story of sexual sin in college, finding faith and forgiveness, and now marriage with his wife. Thoughts of "Relationships are a 5-speed stick shift" and "Finding your One before the Two" are fantastic considerations in any stage of dating.

I appreciate Groeschel's thought on planning a wedding: "Remember that a reasonable wedding is over in an hour; a marriage is a lifelong commitment. Have a wonderful wedding. But put a hundred times more energy and time into planning for your marriage. Ask yourself, Will the forty-seven hours we invest picking out the perfect centerpiece for our reception matter when we're navigating our first year of marriage?"

There is no doubt that I'll have this book handy for future reference and sharing.

I received this book from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group in exchange for my thoughts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid advice September 20, 2011
Format:Paperback
If only this book was around when I was in college.

Craig Groeschel explains the relationship we are to have with our spouse. Even when we are simply dating, we are to be thinking of our future spouse. From living together and sex to break-ups and not losing yourself in the other person, this book has solid, practical advice.

Craig Groeschel acknowledges the temptations. He admits that he faltered, but he tells us what he learned from his mistakes. He puts reality into dating. He has a 5-gear model, and it is all about going slow. This is great advice, because I think we all know that once sex is in the equation, we can't think straight.

I am saving this book for my daughter in hopes that she can learn these lessons without making the mistakes. This is a great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars And everything... March 19, 2013
Format:Paperback
I will read anything by Craig. ANYTHING!

When I lived in Stillwater, OK I attended Lifechurch. It saved me in so many ways. I remember how we would meet every Sunday in the middle school auditorium. It seemed so small, so quaint. In time, membership grew and we needed our own building. It was HUGE. Sadly, I went through my divorce shortly after and did not get to enjoy that new building for long. When I moved to MI I watched Craig online through the Lifechurch.tv website. Every Sunday I was able to bring a piece of Stillwater into my home here in MI.

In the past I have reviewed Chazown even though it is not the only book by him I have read.

When I saw this one was up for review, I decided it was worth the read even though I was already married. I am glad I did. There was so much stuff in there that is so relevant to me and my marriage. Especially the part about communication. Craig also talks a lot about The ONE (who is Jesus) your TWO (who is your spouse) and then yourself. He is a believer that life should be lived like that and children should come after. With 6 kids, I know he knows what he is talking about.

I still watch Lifechurch when time permits, but my own church New Covenant has many of the same values as Craig. Even better, my Pastor has met him and shares some of his work. Bonus for me! I have even found a few members that also watch LC online.

I feel the book is a good read for anyone, believer or not, who would like a better grasp on how relationships should be, not just before marriage, but for the entire life of the relationship.
