Bob Dylan – The Witmark Demos: 1962-1964

Biography

Bob Dylan (born Robert Allen Zimmerman) is one of the most important singer-songwriters of the era of recorded, commercially available music. His lyrics are a yardstick against which aspiring young singer-songwriters measure themselves. He broke seemingly unbreakable rules, and he did so with stalwart passion and uncompromising honesty. He incorporated musical traditions from a diverse range of… Read more in Amazon's Bob Dylan Store

  • Bob Dylan: "Johnny Cash's voice was so big, it made the world grow small... When I first heard 'I Walk the Line' so many years earlier, it sounded like a voice calling out 'What are you doing there, boy?' I was trying to keep my eyes wide opened, too." 4.0 out of 5 stars Watch out for this one.... short CD's, same as other imports, June 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Love Sick: Dylan Alive! (Japan) [2 CD Set] (Audio CD)
This one has two CDs, but they are very short. Could fit on one, or half a CD. Same songs as the other import versions of Love Sick live stuff. Good stuff, but I already had it. Too expensive for two short CDs, good for collectors. You decide, maybe they will allow this review to be published.

5.0 out of 5 stars re-releasing in different parts of the world, July 14, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Love Sick: Dylan Alive! (Japan) [2 CD Set] (Audio CD)
The live tracks on these two CDs are also available as the second of two CDs in the Australian release of Time Out of Mind. The first CD is the same as the American release of Time Out of Mind. The "bonus" CD in the Australian album is titled "Live '97."

5.0 out of 5 stars i'm trying to think straight, October 18, 2006
This review is from: Love Sick: Dylan Alive! (Japan) [2 CD Set] (Audio CD)
The live version of "Can't Wait" (track no. 2 of vol. 1) is among the true stunners of live recordings of Dylan. It takes all the virtues of the TIME OUT OF MIND recorded version and then ramps them into a new galaxy of expression. The liner notes are in Japanese. Divine blessings on Japan for evidently providing a market for this cd (which I guess Columbia thinks is too strong for an American audience), but could someone please be so kind as to tell us where and when this "Can't Wait" performance was recorded.

The grammy live version of Love Sick is also a winner. The "Cold Irons Bound" live cut is very fine, though the drums of the live version performed in Philadelphia in 1999 seemed to have even more of the slapping quality so essential to this song. Haven't had a chance yet to compare this "Cold Hours Bound" to the version on the bonus DVD of MODERN TIMES.

This double CD offers the same kind of mix of live and precorded cuts found on the CD's THINGS HAVE CHANGED and NOTE THERE YET. "Things Have Changed," one of the greatest of the recent (last vie years) set of songs, is available, beyond that special, expensive Japanese-import CD (to my understanding) only on the ESSENTIAL BOB DYLAN and on the 4-cut Japanese import CD of the same name and on the bonus DVD extra of MODERN TIMES. Alas, I have been able to find no live cut available for "Things Have Changed." But the live cut on the LOVE SICK CD of "Make You Feel My Love" provides another priceless trace of this last few years of tour creativity and another example of the energy to be found in the live-recordings, most of which, as I understand from other reviewers, some dark things at Columbia seem to be hoarding. But then again, how much good music can a person absorb.
