Great Buddha, have you heard? This is a delightful series!, September 19, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Love and the Single Corpse (Hannah and Kiki Mystery) (Paperback)
Annie Griffin has created a place called Hill Creek I love to visit. Each book in this series just gets better and better, a wonderful, skillful mix of mystery, humor, and emotion. Her characters are superbly drawn. I know that if Hill Creek were real, I would go directly to Lady Nails so I could hear all the good gossip. Naomi would be there to give me spiritual advice (or at least her card with the 900 number on it), Kiki would give me advice on my love life (then I'd know what not to do!), Wanda would tell me about her dog, who's really a reincarnation of her uncle, I might see Lauren and encourage her to go after Morgan, and if I were very lucky, I might find the wise and thoughtful Hannah quietly reading a gardening magazine. If you haven't tried a Hannah and Kiki mystery, get this one. The series doesn't have to be read in order. Besides, if you miss this book, you'll miss out on one of the most exciting uses for cornmeal I've ever heard.

Love and the single corpse, August 24, 2000

Five stars! The zany characters in this book kept me laughing the whole time. Being a Marin County resident myself, I especially enjoyed Griffin's satire of the area. This is a great light read that will leave you in a good mood. Can't wait to see what Kiki and Hannah are up to next! Sausalito, CA

Great summer reading, August 29, 2000

I couldn't put it down. Literally, got a sunburn at the beach one day because I couldn't stop reading. I honestly didn't guess the killer. At some times, I thought I knew but then there was just enough to throw me off. The characters are terrific and kept me laughing, sometimes right out loud!!! A truly enjoyable read....can't wait until the next one!

A good read, August 10, 2000
This review is from: Love and the Single Corpse (Hannah and Kiki Mystery) (Paperback)
Hill Creek lies about a half an hour north of San Francisco. The Marin County town is considered an upscale community with its residents consisting of yuppies and new agers. It is a nice town where nothing ugly occurs and the latest craze is typically adopted here. When something wicked does occur, sisters Kiki Goldstein and Hannah Malloy can usually be found in the middle. The sexagenarian siblings have energy to burn that is the envy of teenagers. A hit man murders Hannah's favorite teacher, Geraldine Markham. Hannah feels very guilty because the woman called her for help, but circumstances prevented Hannah from providing aid to Geraldine. Hannah vows to ferret out the identity of the murderer. Her quest sends Hannah and her sister into danger that almost costs them their lives. The two sisters are eccentric dynamos, who vividly display that the retirement set can do more than just action shuffleboard. Kiki is a real cool character who flirts like a butterfly, but stings like a bee. Hannah tries to futilely keep her sibling in line. LOVE AND THE SINGLE CORPSE has an exciting amateur sleuth who-done-it that shows how talented Annie Griffin is. Harriet Klausner F

This book is about entertainment. Interesting people, solid plot and a good mystery. I am not from Marin County, but enjoyed it anyway. Definitely worth the read.

Once (a year) is not enough, August 30, 2000

Hannah and Kiki, you're cool! My friends and I enjoyed this book so much I would gladly pay $500 for another just like it. I'm trying to get Annie Griffin to participate (by phone) in a special book club meeting devoted to her wonderful series. Honest, I'm not all the way back to the real world after finishing "Love and the Single Corpse"--and that's fine with me! Buy it, read it, then share it with your friends, you'll triple the fun.

Another fun Griffin read, August 15, 2000

I've been waiting for this 3rd Hannah and Kiki book all year and wasn't disappointed. The other reviews are right - this book is definately witty. But I liked the plot the best and had no idea who the killer was until the very end. Will there be a 4th? I sure hope so.

The book has two great funny characters that kept me laughing, and the mystery was also good. it kept me hooked. Griffin is the best at combining humor with a good plot. I love all the Marin County new age stuff.
