Book Description

Lady Helen Montgomery swears off love, when the Duke of Somerset turns around and marries another after he had actively pursued her, betraying Helen’s trust in true love. After returning to her ancestral home to lick her wounds, Helen spends time with her beloved nieces and nephews and decides she wants children of her own.

At a lavish ball, Helen meets Matthew Cunningham, the Earl of Collingswood and sparks fly. Lady Helen agrees to a marriage of convenience, so she can become a mother.

Helen arrives at Collingswood Hall to find a run down disheveled estate, his twin daughters out of control and Matthew’s devilish brother and hellion sister giving Helen all kinds of mayhem to deal with. Not to mention a vengeful former mistress determined to kill Helen!

One thing Helen had not anticipated was the passion that sizzles between her and Matthew. Can she dare risk her heart again? Can Matthew break through the shield that guards her heart?

2.0 out of 5 stars good plot, yet poorly written July 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
From the description of the book, I really thought I would enjoy it. While the plot was good and I was interested in seeing where the story would go, the writing style is extraordinarily basic - a few steps up from See Spot run.

The dialogue is so stilted and disjointed that I actually found myself giggling, at times, at how absurdly it was written. The characters would have conversations where each would talk for about 5-7 sentences, some with questions in the middle of the paragraph, then the person responding would answer them in exact order as though ticking off bullet points.

It was very odd, to the point that it was comical. It makes me wonder, not so much about the author, but about the publisher and editor. I'm actually amazed that this was published.

2.0 out of 5 stars repeat dialog June 6, 2012

I'm about half way through this book and I have found that everything one character says is repeated back by another character. I like the plot of the book but it has been a headache to read. Needless to say I am glad that I did not pay for this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars Could not finish July 14, 2012

While the description sounded interesting, the dialogue was poorly developed. I was unable to finish the book. Not sure if this is the first in the series. Reread and edit could have helped this book.

More About the Author

Vikki Vaught started her writing career when a story popped in her head in November 2009, and it just wouldn't leave. Since then, she has now written 6 historical romances, and she is presently working on the seventh. As an avid reader of historical romance, she's a romantic at heart. Vikki loves a "Happily Ever After", and she writes them in her stories. While romance is the central theme of all her novels, she includes some significant historical event or place in each of her books.

Vikki lives in the beautiful Smoky Mountains of Tennessee with her beloved husband Jim. She attended the University of Tennessee and St. Leo University and has a bachelor's degree in Business Management. For many years, Vikki worked for several large corporations in team management, but she finds writing much more enjoyable. While she still has a day job, it gives her ample time to devote to her craft.
