Book Description

Love Songs
Barbara Delinsky

In these two classic novels from America’s beloved storyteller, Barbara Delinsky captures those special romantic moments that make the heart sing…

UP ALL NIGHT

Alanna Evans is a busy young executive with a bad case of insomnia. Desperate for a good night’s sleep, she decides to check out a renowned sleep clinic, the Knight Center. It’s the last place she’d expect to meet the man of her dreams. But when Alexander Knight—the clinic’s gorgeous benefactor—takes a very personal interest in her case, Alanna’s afraid those sexy bedroom eyes of his might keep her up all night long…

SWEET SERENITY

Serena Strickland runs a candy shop in Minneapolis that’s every bit as wonderful as its name: Sweet Serenity. Unfortunately, her serenity is all but shattered when Tom Reynolds waltzes back into her life. Years ago, the rising young journalist turned her father’s trial into a front-page scandal, and Serena has never forgiven him. But when Tom turns on the charm, she’s surprised to find that he’s as sweet as candy—and just as hard to resist…

1.0 out of 5 stars What have you done withBarbara Delinksy? February 5, 2013

This book has the most overblown prose and reads like a very poor romance novel. Certainly does not reflect the Delinksy I am used to reading.

1.0 out of 5 stars read one of her other books February 13, 2013

In the first story, Alanna goes to the hospital to get help with her insomnia. She meets a man who acts like a stalker. I don't understand why she does not run away screaming.

1.0 out of 5 stars Two stories not one book February 27, 2013

This is the 2nd time recently I've been tricked into thinking barbara Delinsky was really writing new novels. Love Songs is a compilation of stories she wrote before she got good. It's ok but needs editing to be up to the standard of her current writing.

2.0 out of 5 stars Reviewed for Cocktails and Books March 16, 2013

There's romance, and then there's hokey. This compilation of two Barbara Delinsky stories borders on the hokey. The first half is Delinsky's "Up All Night." This features Alanna, a young working executive who has a problem with insomnia. When she goes in to a clinic for some testing, she meets Alexander, a wealthy benefactor of the clinic. From the very start, their chemistry is off. She is busy, and can't sleep. He is busy and direct, yet comes off as a sort of stalker-esque creepy. Who meets a man at a sleep study anyway? While their story of boy-meets-girl was unique, it certainly wasn't my cup of tea.

The second half features candy shop owner, Serena, in "Sweet Serenity." She is enjoying her life as a confectioner until the journalist responsible for smearing her father's name in the papers, Tom, shows back up in her life. Her internal struggle over her developing feelings for Tom is expected, but their rom-com romance is lacking. Typically, when you're dealing with feelings over someone that's hurt you in the past, there's an electrifying passion. With Tom and Serena, however, it was fizzling. Their romance was far more believable and sweet than that of Alanna and Alexander, and gave this book a little more life. However, I felt as though it needed more realism and a little less Hollywood script.

Overall, if you're looking for a different kind of romance, or you're a fan of romantic comedy type stories, then this book is definitely for you.

3.0 out of 5 stars 2 short romances August 29, 2013

If I'd have known it was 2 short stories - and a reprint of her earliest novels, I wouldn't have bought it. She's gotten better with more writing experience.

3.0 out of 5 stars Love Songs by Barbara Delinsky July 13, 2013

This was really an old, old book written by her and has many, many overtones of the Harlequin romances with a lot of
steamy sex (you can really have too much of this, and not enough story - which she overdid in this one!!!!!) I thought
it was one I had missed since I've tried to read all her more CLEAN books and ones that actually have a plot, storyline
and reasonable conclusion. I won't be ordering these old books anymore - on to cleaner, more well-written novels
with less soft PORN in them (that is if I can find such books, with all the dirt out there on the market) You have to
understand that a lot of the reading these days are by older, mature women who have the time to read (age 65 to ????)
and I'm sure most are like me - they don't like reading filthy words and cursing and have to endure lengthy LOVE ????
scenes where all the body parts are mentioned and used. Ugh. Imagination and good writing and humor is the
key to good reading.
