Great Songs, but...,
By
This review is from: Love Songs (Audio CD)
This is another case where a major record label tries to cash in on an artist who was dropped from its roster...Dan Fogelberg has written and recorded some of the most wonderful music Sony has ever released, but this collection will leave you wanting for more in many ways: First of all, the choice of only ten songs (where there would have been room for almost twice that amount) is disappointing. Also, this collection goes for "hits" rather than concentrating on "real" love songs - while interestingly also including a few choices about love gone absolutely wrong (from his brilliant "Exiles" album). "Portrait", a 4-CD box set, offers a much wider variety of Dan Fogelberg material if you're looking for a collection as such. If not, go and buy his original albums - they're all worth the money!

A Good one to add to your collection,
By "jcchollywood" (Dallas, TX) - See all my reviews

Dan Fogelburg's Love Songs might seem like a short CD at first and not worth the time, but in all reality it is a great ablum. I, at first, was shocked to see only ten songs on the cd, but some cd's have less. The album carries only love songs that Fogelburg wrote himself and therefore fits its title. With classics like "Hard to Say", "Make Love Stay", "Longer" along with the rest, it's a great alum. What makes it even a better album, is the edition the Exile songs "Lonely in Love," and "Seeing you Again.", which rounds out the Love theme. I have found myself listening to and enjoying this album more than some of the larger, better known ones.In all truth, this wasn't tops on my list to get, but I think that it is overall a great arrangement of songs (no mater how few) and not a bad one to add to a Fogelburg collection.

Nice Collection Of Dan's Best Ballads!,
By Barron Laycock "Labradorman" (Temple, New Hampshire United States) - See all my reviews (HALL OF FAME REVIEWER) (REAL NAME)

This is a superb collection of Dan Fogelberg's ballads, which, given his introspective style, are also love songs. From his smash hit "Heart Hotel" to the final "Seeing you Again", this is a wonderful way to spend the better part of an hour, as Dan walks us down the corridors of his most heartfelt love affairs. Like most good song lyricists, he mines his autobiographical memories superbly, letting us in on all the gooey details of loves won and lost, trials and tribulations, exaltations and moments of triumph, as well. Tersely said, this is a great chick CD. Yet there is lot here for us guys as well. For far from being an idle romancer, Fogelberg is an emotional adventurer as well, and he mines these particular threads well, as well. From "Leader Of the Band" to "Run For The Roses" to "Auld Lang Syne", he neatly illustrates a whole range of different kinds of love in his emotional repertoire besides the strictly romantic. I like all the songs included here, but my favorite is "Longer", his biggest single hit, as well as "Hard To Say". All in all, this is a great album and a terrific collection of some of Fogelberg's best work all under one roof. Enjoy
