"Love Songs" is yet another compilation of David Lanz's older material presented in an attractive new package (Lanz left Narada in 1998). Released in time for Valentine's Day 2001, it is somewhat ironic because Lanz has consciously avoided writing love songs for many years. With that said, this is an excellent collection of David's music going as far back as "Heartsounds", his debut album on Narada in 1983, and the most recent track being "London Blue" from "Songs From an English Garden" (1998). The only track that hasn't appeared on another album is "The Eyes of Amelia", which is a beautiful live recording made in a 1990 concert with Tingstad and Rumbel. If you are new to David Lanz' music, this is an outstanding collection of some of his best-known and best-loved pieces. Or, if you want to update some vinyl or cassette recordings to CD, this is an inexpensive means to bring things into the present. Longtime fans, however, will find only one "new" piece here, and it's eleven years old. Lanz is currently working on an album of all-new material, so new music is on its way!

This CD fills my house with wonderful music and positive energy. I play this while my teenagers are doing their homework and I'm convinced that they do a better job. The piano is terrific. If you're looking for some peacful background music, you've found the perfect CD and musician.

Some of David Lanz's Most Popular Compositions,

A delight to listen to from start to finish, this album of David Lanz's older material features mainly piano solos and other tracks with light accompaniment. This CD has been released by his former label, and contains many of his most popular releases from several different albums when he was with Narada. If you enjoy melodic, well constructed piano pieces, you will probably enjoy this CD. David Lanz is an excellent composer and pianist and I have no hesitation in recommending this album, particularly if you want an excellent introduction to the musical world of David Lanz and do not have all his CDs already.

The best of David Lanz,

If you like new-age or contemporary solo piano (Liz Story, Wayne Gratz, George Winston, Jeff Bjorck) you will probably love David Lanz. His Cristofori's Dream is very popular and is included on this collection of music, most of which has been released on a number of other cds. There are some instrumental selections with David Lanz here as well; Path with a Heart and the Tingstad/Rumbel cut. Tingstad and Rumbel also record for the Narada label and are a guitar/wind duo. It's an extra treat to have them with David Lanz. If you have not tried David Lanz's piano cd's, this is an excellent one to try.

The music is very relaxing, and a pleasant CD to have on a Sunday to enjoy while reading the paper and having a peaceful day. I would reccomend this for anyone who enjoys piano music.

David Lanz is one of the greatest New Age pianists of all time. He is able to weave beautiful melodies that take advantage of the entire keyboard, rather than just the upper octaves. Lanz got his start playing in a piano bar, but his music is far better than typical lounge fare. He avoids getting in a stylistic rut, while maintaining a consistent sound. If you liked "Piano 2" (various artists), you would probably like this one. Like any good Best of, the pieces are arranged so the whole album flows very nicely. Great for relaxation or romance!

When it comes to piano solos, the heart and Lanz's music go together. I was playing "Farewell Amparo" last night, not as well as Lanz, but "Wow! What a feeling!" David Lanz rules :-)
