Trickling, psychedelic ugliness,
By Ted Rosen (Bellingham, WA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love Songs in Lubritorium (Audio CD)
I first heard the great song "Snow White" from this record on KUGS-FM in Bellingham. Had to have the record, but couldn't find it in the US. I had to drive immediately to Vancouver, BC. It was worth the effort and the funny colorful money. The songs are off-kilter - sometimes seeming to be just orchestrated sloppiness - but are always melodic and affecting. Lyrics are cast off casually yet are compelling enough to be worth deciphering. Released during they slow internment of grunge, this record is notably more timeless and bold than most from the mid 90's. Those lacking an abstract sensibility and needing a carefully packaged pop formula need not apply.
