Help me up from this chair... I can't stop laughing!!,
By Ray McNemee (Kirkland, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love Stinks (DVD)
This one caught me by surprise. I've always wanted to see Stewart French in movie and caught this on the satellite one night. I laughed till I cried. I watched it 2 more times that night and then I went online with Amazon and bought the DVD!Bridgette Wilson and Stewart French do a great job with this underrated dose of comedy! Everyone I've shown this movie to agrees that it has extraordinary "entertainment value"! I have discovered one thing however... it is not to be viewed by everyone. Just a warning - DO NOT show this movie to a couple about to get married!! OOOHHH yeah... The movie watching "comfort zone" can become a little tense if you do! This was a great movie that I would recommend to all of you with a true "funny bone"! A sense of humor and an open mind about relationships is required when watching this one!

Love Stinks is a great date movie...,

This feature just has that campy, date flick style written all over it. Two people joined in the institution of dating take a severe turn into disaster when one is ready for marriage immediately and the other is just getting started. The entire film takes a lot of silly twists and turns into a very comical ending that just sends it over the top. Good movie for a couple thinking of getting engaged or divorced!

Always a bridesmaid, never a bride,

Read the above summary if you want a synopsis. I'll just say that this is one of the best comedies I've seen in awhile! Bridgette Wilson and French Stewart give outstanding performances, as do Bill Bellamy and Tyra Banks in their supporting roles. These actors and actresses have what it takes to bring this dating disaster story to life. If you enjoyed "Meet the Parents", you'll probably love this movie! I hope to add it to my collection soon!

The almost uniformly bad reviews of this movie by professional critics contrast sharply with mostly favorable reviews by customers. One wonders if some of the professional reviews were disingenuous, because a public thumbs up to Love Stinks might have required some explaining at home. The film is rude, abrasive, un-PC, and very funny.
It is the nature of modern romance that nearly every one of us has been involved with at least one psycho. The world is full of them and they come in both sexes: stalkers, vengeance-seekers, clingers, users, manipulators, and abusers of all types. They often are seductive (which is how they rope you in) and the final break-ups with them can be horrendous. The psycho in this case is a woman, so no doubt it is easier for men to relate to and laugh at this movie, though the gender response, judging by other reviews, obviously is far from uniform either way. There is a lot of pain and cruelty in this film, but pain and cruelty, handled properly, are the meat of all humor. This is not as nasty as it sounds; humor is the way we best deal with such things. Love Stinks provides plenty of protein.

Dark comedy,
By A Customer
This review is from: Love Stinks [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Forget Freddy Krueger, Jason, and all the rest...they're not nearly as scary as the psycho-chick-from-hell in this movie (in fact, she could probably have them running for the hills in five minutes). If the main character had done the smart thing and broken up with her as soon as she showed her true colors, he could have avoided a lot of trouble, but he thinks with the wrong head. Some women may not like this movie (particularly if they're the sort of women that the movie makes fun of), but I thought it was hilarious. Don't let this scare you away from women though, guys--not all chicks are like this!

Great Date Flick! Hot to tell if she is psycho!,

This review is from: Love Stinks (DVD)
Hot to tell if your girl friend is psycho. If she fits the mold of Brigette Wilson, run for the hills. This movie was a downright laugh riot. I know a few women that did not find this movie funny. At the same time I noticed that psycho look in their eye. Must have hit a sore spot with them. It was nice to see a refreshing comedy like this concidering all the teenie-bopper love comedies and old-fogie love stories (like Richard Gere). Finally a love story for the people between 19 and 40! The commentary is enjoyable as well with Stewart, Wilson and the Writer/Director, is funny as well. This is not just a comedy, it is a warning sign to men everywhere!

Absolutely Hilarious!,

One of the funniest movies in the 90's! Genuinely funny... not stupid or gross, but actually intelligently done. Great fun for anyone who's ever had a relationship gone bad. Hilarious performances by French Stewart and Bridgette Wilson (Sampras). Also features Tyra Banks and Bill Bellamy. This movie can be enjoyed by men and women alike, although fellow women may feel it gives women a bad name (all in fun, however!). :) You can't take it too seriously... but it's so much fun!

Ok, if you are like me you tend to not watch these straight to video, not in the theaters a very long time type movies. Well, I caught the tale end of this movie one night and decided that i had to catch the rest of it! This movie is hilarious!! French Stewart plays this man who by all right is kinda a sucker for love and in the end gives you such a surprise, on what a sucker for love he is not! Tyra Banks does such a great job as Chelses's freind and the funny things Chelsea does to get her man to commit! Thei movie is for anyone who thinks that men can not have the last laugh, even with a manipulative woman! Think twice before you agree to marriage women, the man might have something up his sleeve!
