"Love Stories" is a series of 7 short stories of different lengths, the first being the longest. The first 5 tales seem to all occur at a hospital - a young man has a broken leg; the superintendent of the hospital tries to manage during a strike; an alcoholic struggles with a terrible fever; a prostitute is badly burned; life and love in the maternity ward. The 6th story is about a young Canadian man going off to war and the girl who provides him with a reason to survive and return to her. The last story is quite different from the rest - it takes place on a steamer crossing the ocean. The chief of the engine room had rescued a boy from drowning, the boy stows away on the ship to be with his savior, the ship hits a derelict in the fog and starts to sink. The chief's first love happens to be aboard the steamer with her daughter. The contents page is interactive. Some stories are better than others. Some are serious and others are cute.
