This review is from: Love Stories (Audio CD)
Finally...the founder of the Manhattan Transfer steps out on his own with
his first solo CD entitled "Love Stories." After numerous solo CD's by Transfer songstresses Janis Siegel and Cheryl Bentyne and an interesting effort by Transfer tenor Alan Paul, Tim Hauser, the bass singer and also creator of the group has recorded a CD that demonstrates his lyricism,
voice control, and mastery of the love ballad. Solid performances on the
12 tracks blend standards with seldom recorded pieces and showcases the tremendous talents of Hauser. He has certainly mellowed with age and although his bass voice is "light" and at times a bit hesitant, he still delivers heart-felt performances on each selection and makes each song his own. One can only wonder why he did not engage the solo route earlier, as did his bandmates? Well, for whatever reason that might have been, this solo effort was well worth the wait!
