5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 Star Effort, December 28, 2004
This review is from: Love Story (+1 Bonus Track) (Audio CD)
As the name suggests this is an album of love songs. After the disappointing sales of the first single "The Loneliness" this album was canned. Shame on Arista and radio for not promoting it. However after a few weeks of searching & downloading from KaZaA.com, I have actually been able to get the 10 tracks on the album. (Some sources credit this album with an 11th track "I Promise" which I haven't found.)
Track 1 : God Must Love U. Safe, solid and typical, but nice. Sounds like it could have come from either "The Day" or "For The Cool In You". 9/10
Track 2 : Red Dress. Surely this would have been the 2nd single. This is catchy and commercial. Stunning. 10/10
Track 3 : The Getting 2 Know U. The whole song is sung in Babyface's high pitched head voice (falsetto). 9.5/10
Track 4 : Makin' Love. Fairly safe from Babyface with a jazzy touch. This was the hardest to get on KaZaa.com. 8.5/10
Track 5 : Love Song. Nice with jazz touches but not that instant. A fault??? which is true of some of the tracks on this album and perhaps the reason why this album was not released. 8.5/10
Track 6 : The Sentimental Reasons. The only dud on the album. It would have made a decent B-side for "The Loneliness" unfortuanately it's too repetitive and the jingly, jangly 3 f****n' chords start to grate. 4/10
Track 7 : The Loneliness. Like Red Dress in that it has crossover appeal, doesn't need many listens to enjoy and is glorious. Shame on the music public for not making this a hit. 10/10
Track 8 : Wish That I Could Tell U. Starts of like a Xmas carol (not too promising) but when the chorus kicks in and Babyface sings "you're my moonriver, my dreammaker, my soulmate" it is stirring stuff. 9.5/10
Track 9 : Together Forever. Again, quite jazzy with a great bridge which cleverly uses lyrics which name other songtitles on the album "Red Dress, Makin' Love", & "Getting 2 Know U". 9.5/10
Track 10 : Still My Boo. A lovely laidback jazzy closing duet with a female singer. Who is she? I wish I knew. Lyrically it goes through the days of the week. Works well. 9/10
In summing up I rate this 4.5/5. I deduct points for Song 6 and that there are only 10 songs which run for approx. 50 minutes. This is being played over and over in my car stereo and I hope that they release this.

5.0 out of 5 stars I JUST CANNOT BELIEVE THIS!!!!!!!!!, March 18, 2005
This review is from: Love Story (+1 Bonus Track) (Audio CD)
When I first came across "This Loneliness" I was like OMG!!!! The track just blew me away and I could not stop playing it over and over.

Babyface is THE greatest songwriter and having such lyrics coupled with his marvellous guitar playing genius makes him one of THE most outstanding ARTISTS of this generation. Anyway, what puzzles me is that I didn't know he actually had an album (A love Story) that thE single is got from and all I can say is WOOOOWWWWW!!!!

I sampled it as fast as I could immediately I got it and could not wait to read what other "critics" had to say about it. Finding only one review kinda shocked me, c'mon people, have you not LISTENED to these tracks??????? The music in this album is absolutely beautiful, the strings being played almost sound like they are LITERALLY pulling at my heart.

The tracks are fresh, original, sweet, touching", real...u name it. My favourite of course is "This Loneliness" but I can assure all Babyface fans that this is an album to have REGARDLESS of what other people say and because of each and every track. There's also "Red Dress", "Sentimental Reasons", "Together Forever", hell....ALL OF 'EM!!!
Kinda takes you back to the emotions got from listening to " The Day" and the experience from "For the Cool In You"

WHAT ARE Y'ALL WAITING FOR????? GO AND BUY IT NOW!!!!!!!!.

5.0 out of 5 stars A review by Tionne Myles [...], October 12, 2005
This review is from: Love Story (+1 Bonus Track) (Audio CD)
This review answers some questions including the female vocalist on "Still My Boo".

When it comes to one of the most stayed men in the music industry, Babyface always delivers his sentient signature, as expected. He's known for his bag of tricks including song writing, music production and the like, has worked with various artists in the industry, and currently has a total of 9 albums (one unofficial) to show for it. Currently unreleased, his latest addition is a more subdued collection compared to his previous tap into more modern cuts, from his 8th release in 2001, Face2Face. A Love Story is extremely reminiscent of the work that impressed his originality; noting him as an implausible writer, well acknowledged for his love songs. The album's single "The Loneliness," indefinitely sets the LPs overall tone, offering a string ballad, connected with lenient vocals. I presume the album hasn't been released due to the response of the single, as it only made it to the 49th spot on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks list and Babyface is well known for creating bigger waves. With an early 90's hue, "God Must Love You" is filled with light inflection and a completely mellow texture, leading you to "Red Dress," a satisfying medley fainted with jazz. "The Getting 2 Know U," offers Babyface's higher tone, backed with a cool R&B scent. With a smooth start, "Makin' Love" is one of the more noteworthy ballads on the album, presenting more appeasing vocal projection and sown with light keys. Sampling "In a Sentimental Mood" (from the phenomenal Coltrane & Ellington), "The Sentimental Reasons" is further depiction into the love story, with emotionally brash vocals coursing a wronged love. "Wish That I could Tell You" is a talented sampling of "Good King Wenceslas," with a delicate and warming mid-level tone. The album ends with a congenial, backed with a late 50s aroma in, "Together Forever," as "Still My Boo," features Mycale, <who appears on Patti Labelle's "Timeless Journey" CD> tenderly traversing between the days of the week, comparing from essentials to love. There's been no word on the release, however the set indulges romance in many forms, and should any Babyface fans receive A Love Story it can be considered an undeniably appeasing work to add to their collection.
