Michael Scores again,
By A Customer
This review is from: Love Story (Audio CD)
While this is a whole different type of album it is absolutely fab. It tells the story of an affair from beginning to end and starting over again. Great songs by a variety of composers and sung with feeling and passion that only Michael Ball has. Almost a jazz feeling. Different but another hit for the fantastic UK Musical Theatre star.

I love this cd. But let's face it , it is very different from any of his other cds. It tells a story of love. One that we have all known. He is not belting out the songs , but instead, caressing you as he tells the story of a failed love. Picking himself up. Starting again. A decidedly jazz flavor is instilled in some of the songs and the passion from God Give Me Strength is done as only he can do. As I said. Different but great

Wonderful!,

This is not his best album, but it's up there! I loved how it followed a story, and it really showed off his range. It's all songs that we've never heard him sing before, including some well-known hits, like "Time in a Bottle" by Jim Croce. Some of my new favorites are on this CD, including the last two, the playful sounding "I wish I were in Love Again" and fun "Me and My Shadow" the duet with Antonio Banderas. This is a must have for any Michael Ball fan.

In Love with Michael Ball,

I am a HUGE Michael Ball fan and was eagerly awaiting this album. I was not disappointed. From the beginning "You Had me from Hello" through to "Me and My Shadow" Michael takes you through a love affair between two people. The excitement of when you first meet, the ups and downs of being together, and unfortunately at times the break up of a relationship and moving on. It is a must have for all Michael fans. My personal favorite has gotten to be "What are you doing for the rest of your life" I am constantly amazed at both the range and versatility of this man's talent. If you haven't already discovered how wonderful Michael is, this would be a great beginning!

This review is from: Love Story (Audio CD)
This is a great CD! And with Michael FINALLY coming to America to perform in concert in Salt Lake City, everyone on these shores will be able to hear the amazing VOICE of Michael Ball! His CDs are wonderful but you have to experience his voice in person!

Dissapointed,

I am a Michael Ball fan tried and true but I think that this album is well below his high standard. I am not against the concept of a soft voiced Michael this time around but many of the songs are sung way too slow and are just plain boring. This Guy's In Love With You was typical of a great song that just lost character on this album. The finale of Me and My Shadow with Antonio was great but it has already been done, just as well, by Robbie Williams and others. ALAN (AUSTRALIA)

Disappointing,

Initiated on the same concept of his one-man musical `Alone Together' (2001), Michael Ball's newly released album tells "A Love Story" through a song cycle with, however, the depth and impact nowhere near what `Alone Together' has revealed. It is understandable that in threading a story line the songs would have to be narrowed down to a certain range of selections, but still it could have been done better. Neither gripping nor dramatic, most of the twelve songs chosen are bland and boring, although still very sensitively rendered by Michael, they simply cannot bring off the task that was otherwise brilliantly succeeded in `Alone Together'. "God Give Me Strength" is the only track with emotional strength that reminds me of the Michael Ball-power, but unfortunately it also shows some not-so-pleasant changes in his vocal quality, particularly the rasps in his high notes. Usually when Michael Ball sings, you'd simply be drawn on and listen, but sadly I have to say that this album, for its lack of dramatic depth, would be well suited to the genre of background music.

Perfection AGAIN!,

This review is from: Love Story (Audio CD)
This guy is just beyond words. Michael Ball's voice is unique, yet he can sing anything. If American Idol was around 20-25 years ago, Michael would be it (barring the fact that he is indeed NOT american). He could sing the ABCs and still make you cry or dance depending on how he does it. I only wish he's make more stops on his US gigs. How can you go wrong with Michael Ball, he is Perfection!

Nice CD for sleeping,

I am NOT a michael ball fan. In fact, i find him to be overly self-indulging, and attempts to much to be a male Barbra Streisand. However, in this CD, it is nice to find out that he selected songs that would DEFINITELY fail, like Time in a Bottle. On some parts, Michael Ball could not hide from his over-acting style of singing-"acting". His use of his low voice register saved the recording. I just hope, that he minimizes his acting by 50%. This would definitely improve the quality of his recording. From this cd, i hope he would try to be a little subtle and sublime.
