5.0 out of 5 stars Only the BEST that Vikki has to offer.
Never in my life have I heard a voice with more emotion then Miss Carr, when I first heard her sing "For All We Know", "Hurt"
and "Six Weeks Every Summer" I knew I was listening to the best.
Anyone that doesn't buy this one is missing out on a truely wonderful and moving collection. I can't give this CD enough praise.

3.0 out of 5 stars Carr gets emotional over covers
Vikki Carr floods these 60s and 70s covers with emotion, which is in keeping with her style. She almost comes to tears in Six Weeks Every Summer. Her Spanish Harlem is nothing but LOUD and she blasts her vocal pyrotechnics on most songs. But she's best when she does not over emote or take these tunes over the top, which is why I've Never Been a Woman Before and If You...

These Vikki Carr LPs were played all over the place in the early 70s & it's great to hear them again. Vikki's voice soars over highly dramatic arrangements of these cover versions.
Great stuff from Vikki's "2nd Phase"...

5.0 out of 5 stars A songwriter's dream, April 27, 2007
This review is from: Love Story / Superstar (Audio CD)
Just look at some of the songwriters represented: Jimmy Webb, Burt Bacharach & Hal David, Randy Newman, The Bee Gees, Robbie Robertson, Leon Russell, Van Morrison, Phil Spector, Carole King and Kris Kristofferson!!! This CD leads off with a wonderful arrangement by Artie Butler of "I've Never Been A Woman Before" (also covered by Barbra Streisand). Both albums were produced by the great Dick Glasser (Andy Williams). Her version of "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" is right up there with the Diana Ross version. But it's the Carole King compositon, "So Far Away", from her "Tapestry" album that showcases Ms. Carr's vocal gifts and the talented background vocals including the most wonderful Myrna Matthews. On another musical spectrum, "Spanish Harlem" (modeled after Aretha Franklin's hit version) rocks out in an almost "dance" version with rubbery bass, upfront percussion, Ms. Carr trading vocals back and forth with the background singers. What could remixers, David Morales or Frankie Knuckles, do with this cut?? Yes, this girl can sing! A worthwhile CD, oh yes!

Vikki Carr possesses a stunning magnificent voice, singing with lots of heart & soul in this two Lp collection of contemporary classics and the grand Diva's divine voice is on display in it's full glory in peak sublime form. Signed in 1970 to a major label contract with Columbia Records, this stunning collection features Vikki's first two lp's "Vikki Carr's Love Story" & "Superstar" with glorious vocals that are tender and emotional yet at the same time strong and soulful making this masterful set as good as great singing gets...all these years later this singing legend is still knocking them out in concert as Vikki's recent Sold Out engagement in Southern California demonstrates. Vikki Carr sang two hours straight, receiving numerous standing ovations from an enthralled and very lucky audience! Do not miss this superb collection as this timeless vocal masterpiece features brilliant orchestrations, arrangements showcasing one of the greatest voices in popular music over the past forty years and still counting. Bravo Vikki Carr, you are the greatest!
