If you liked the movie and enjoyed the music I would recommend it.

The score is haunting and beautiful and magnificently echoed the feel of the story, enhancing the youth, promise and sadness in the lives of Oliver and Jenny.

"Love Story" is a timeless classic that nearly anyone can appreciate, with its touching story and beautiful soundtrack this film is unforgettable. The first track we start off with is "Theme From Love Story," which is a mixture of several instrumental pieces and part of different film sequences in the film. The opening music plays like the words from the beginning of the film "What can you say about a 24 year old girl who died?" The second track "Snow Frolic" is quite an unusual piece that sounds very French in origin. A very simply chord structure holds the song together with the very basic bass keeping the beat going. I am not sure whom Francis Lai chose to sing this particular song but she does a marvelous job doing so. The next song is Mozarts "Sonata in F Major," which is the type of song that is very pleasant to listen to early in morning when waking up to the sunrise. The fourth song "I Love You, Phil" was a piece of music not featured for some reason in the motion picture. What is very interesting about this song is the guitar solo intertwined with the violins and orchestral accompanyment. Tracks 5 (The Christmas Trees) and track 7 (Bozo Barrett) both were not included in the film, yet are well worth listening to. Although I found the "Barrett" track too overwhelming to enjoy I felt the "Christmas Trees" was a track that contained a beautiful melody and evolved very sweetly. "Searching for Jenny" takes you back to the dramatic sequence in the film where Oliver searchs for Jenny. The 8th track "Skating in Central Park" is a very sweet tune that sounds like something out of the Nutcracker suite.Read more ›

This music is very good, but this is not the original soundtrack from the movie. The original soundtrack actually has dialogue from the actors, Ali McGraw, and Ryan O'Neal. There is a "first meeting" sequence, as well as their wedding ceremony.

This is probably the original music from the movie, but not the entire original soundtrack, just to clarify for a potential future listener.

The first time I watched Love Story I was only a child in the 1980s.The first thing I noticed was the beautiful music through out the film. It personaly got to me right inside.
Every song on the soundtrack is amazingly played with that classic 70s muted bass and drum sound. Some of the tracks have a girl singing so softly with a harpsichord and its amazing. I am a musician and I admire the music greatly.
The song "Christmas Trees" on the album is the most beautiful
peice of music I have ever heard and is perfectly arranged.
I find that this album is very moving and positive. If you are a fan of the Get Carter soundtrack you will like this.
ENJOY!!

I remember seeing the film when it came out in the theatres and then getting the soundtrack on vinyl and playing it to death. Now with the CD release it still brings back the images of the film and the times it was released as vividly as if they were today. The score is haunting and beautiful and magnificently echoed the feel of the story, enhancing the youth, promise and sadness in the lives of Oliver and Jenny. If you loved the film, you have to have the album. The CD sounds great and even though it is a little pricey due to it being an import (not sure why it has never been released domestically), it is well worth it. And as for the comment by one of the other reviewers that this isn't the original soundtrack, yes it is. I had the vinyl copy and it's the same record. I don't know what you are talking about dialogue being on the album. It never had dialogue unless another edition was released later like they did with the "Titanic" soundtrack, but I never came across it.

A classic album! I remember this album out at the same time the "Shaft" was out by Isaac Hayes in the very early 70's. I've only got this on cassette right now and will be ordering the CD. I'm surprised it took so long to actually be released on CD. Most of the tracks on the album are just different renditions/arrangements of the Love Story theme. I especially like "The Christmas Trees", and the sultry vocal on "I Love You, Phil." This album brings back those memories from the early 70's, a time when the world seemed a little less complex and down to earth.

There are CDs and CDs. I had gotten one, must have been foreign as it hardly had any sound. As CDs weren't around when the movie was made, I was wary about getting another. This is TRUE SOUND. If you have the speakers, you think you are back in the theater watching the heart wrenching movie. Would highly recommend!
