Book Description

April 18, 2000
"Love is a stranger and speaks a strange language," wrote Rumi, one of the world's most beloved mystical poets. His poems of spiritual love still speak directly to our hearts after more than seven hundred years. These classic selections contemplate separation and longing, intoxication and bliss, union and transcendence.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spiritualy Inspiring, April 28, 2007

This is an amazing work and translation. I have read a couple other translations, though none compare to this. Even though capturing the essence of the original Rumi is nigh impossible, this is the wine that is least diluted.

This book of poetry is lovely if you're into that sort of thing. I bought it for a class, and I found many poems that really spoke to me. I found just as many that I didn't understand. Truth is, Rumi wrote a lot about love and the spirit and the afterlife. Only buy if you're already a fan of Rumi.

Home base for many of us -- along with Jung -- only recently did I appreciate who came first along this road!
Rumi, as Muslim mystic, also founded the Whirling Dervish branch of Sufism -- for men AND women, we now know -- in Konya, Turkey.
(it's worth the trip)
