THIS MOVIE DERSERVES MORE ATTENTION AND A BETTER PLACE IN THE HIERACHY OF FILM HISTORY. ABSOULTELY LOVED IT!!! IT'S REALLY DAVID LYNCH LIKE BUT WITHOUT THE INCOHERENT WEIRDNESS. A LOVELY SLOW BUILD-UP, WONDERFUL GRITTY ACTING FROM BOTH LEADS, A MOVING, REAL STORY, I WAS TOTALLY ABSORBED FROM START TO FINISH, THANK YOU JOHN CASSTAVETTES. THIS IS A FILM LIKE NO OTHER AND A FILM THAT HOLLYWOOD WOULD NEVER (SADLY) MAKE TODAY! A VERY SPECIAL FILM. NICE TO SEE SUCH A REALISTIC, UNGLOSSY, WELL-ACTED PIECE OF WORK. HAD A TOUCH OF WOODY ALLEN TOO! LOVED IT.

5.0 out of 5 stars So Amazing, August 4, 2005

No film has affected me this much in my life, it's funny, sad and moving but these are all sweeping generalities that I mention here. The film needs to be seen to appreciate it's uniqueness. I aggree with the other review that the style is Lynchish, but the substance in this movie is incredible. It builds up slowly like nothing seems to be happening but then all these slow and quite moments suddenly well up into emotional storms that you never saw coming. I'm not going to write anymore - but please see this movie, it will affect everyone different ways. You're missing out if you don't.

5.0 out of 5 stars A powerful work of beauty and wonder, November 12, 2011
This review is from: Love Streams (VHS Tape)
I just had the good fortune to view this beautiful film. It's a shame it isn't widely available (it's never been released on DVD in Region 1). As for the cast, the acting is outstanding, especially Gena Rowlands performance, which is staggering, and John Cassavetes himself, who commands the screen throughout. Moreover, it's very entertaining and watchable, so if you're wary of Cassavetes reputation for creating obtuse, difficult films you needn't be concerned here. As for the plot, what struck me most is how the film begins (Robert's house as a chaotic location filled with people, yet devoid of anything resembling love) and ends (Robert, all by himself [except for the menagerie Sarah brought home for him], after he's finally awakened to a real love--his Platonic love for Sarah). In other words, Sarah's mantra of love as a constant stream comes to pass. She may be mad, but her perceived insanity is really a beautiful vision at odds with our modern world and it's power saves Robert from a life of despair.

5.0 out of 5 stars An American Classic, January 15, 2012
This review is from: Love Streams (VHS Tape)
It is a sin this film is not on DVD. Probably my favorite Cassavetes film. It is strange no one in the industry felt this should be transferred to DVD.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Hope Three Is Not a Crowd ..., June 15, 2008
This review is from: Love Streams (VHS Tape)
... because I have to join the previous two reviewers in saying that I deeply appreciate (hell, I absolutely love) "Love Streams." A lot of people don't "get" this movie and that's what makes it so wonderful. Life and love are not always plain and simple. (And, let's face it, they can be quite painful, too.) But there is so much to cherish in the complicated endeavors of living and loving. Such is the beautiful message of this wonderful quirky little groundbreaking indie dramedy. Only a true visionary like John Cassavetes (or possibly Woody Allen) could have brought this story to the screen, and it features--I'll go out on a limb in saying--his best acting, a fantastic comic and heartbreaking performance by his wife, Gena Rowlands, and their best on-screen chemistry. You will laugh, you will cry, and for years after seeing this film you will remember how you laughed and how you cried and how laughter and tears and life and love do not ever really stop. And you may be confused (understandably), but you will feel good.
