In late 2006, the Hip Hop duo U-N-I and producer Ro Blvd began working on a project, though circulated outside of 'norman' industry channels and vever on CD, has catapulted U-N-I into the position of being one of the country's fastest rising musical acts and leaders of the LA new school of Hip Hop. Now U-N-I(comprised of Y-O and Thurzday) release a deluxe edition of their critically acclaimed instant classic entitled A Love Supreme 2.0. The reworking of the entire project featurs five brand new tracks including the 'Land of Kings' remix with Bun B. To sweeten the package, A Love Supreme 2.0 comes with a full length DVD(Details Below). The U-N-I has created such a buzz that they have been signed to Los Angeles mega agency ICMwho are booking the group into a 30 city US tour in the spring of 2010 with major festival appearances coming for the summer season.

The DVD (Region Free; Run Time: 89 Minutes) entitled A Love Supreme: U-N-I & Ro Blvd. -The Documentary tells the story of how these three young men created a project that reached hundreds of thousands of people without a major label record deal. The DVD includes six music videos, in addition to live performances at Bumbershoot and The Key Club.

For those that may not know, "A Love Supreme" was actually released a while ago as a free download. I scooped it then and it was one of my favorite albums of the year (free OR paid). I purchased this album for a few reasons:

1. U-N-I was nice enough to provide me a super dope album for free, so I wanted to put a little money in their pocket

2. There are a few new tracks on 2.0, including the knockin' "Land of the Kings"

3. I'm very interested to see the DVD that came with it.

Haven't gotten to the DVD yet, but the album is just as expected. Pure, real, and perfect for the summertime cruising. Cop this, you will not be disappointed.

Over the course of the past few weeks I heard a few of the tracks on this LP, including Land of the Kings and Pulp Fiction. Those tracks that I heard were all great, refreshing listens, and I really thought this would be an album that was sonically varied and lyrically interesting to listen to. Unfortunately, A Love Supreme 2.0 is really a boring album. A good portion of the LP pretty much sounds like one really bad Pharrell song (essentially about sex) with some really dull Neptunes-esque production. On this album, U-N-I basically turns out one bad Pharrell knock-off after another (and I love Pharrell). It feels like you hear one beat on this album and then you've heard them all! However, there are some standout tracks which are worth purchasing. Overall, I like U-N-I's image, and they have the right idea with some of the songs on this album, but the rest is truly unremarkable.

I stumbled upon this as a fluke. Doing my normal amazon browsing for music that I've never heard and came upon this. Listened to the first four samples and was sold. When I listened to the whole thing...I was hooked. Do not sleep on these cats from the west. They definitely have their own flava and style.
