I've read a lot of books on relationships and communication. And I've read other books by Drs. Les and Leslie Parrott (I've also heard them in a live seminar). But I've got to admit that Love Talk blew me away. My wife and I read it together and did the men's and women's workbooks that go with it. Amazing! Almost immediately we began to notice a difference in our conversations. And best of all, as the book points out, this doesn't require that either one of us change. The book shows you, in easy to understand language, how each person is "hard-wired" differently for a conversation. Once you crack the code of your partner's hard-wiring (and your partner does the same for you), you begin to spin out of potential conflict very quickly. You begin to feel safe in your conversations. I've been looking for a book like this for a long time. And if you want a fresh and practical way to take your conversations to a deeper level, you'll be very glad you read Love Talk. By the way, it comes with a killer online assessment, The Love Talk Indicator. The only down side is that if you want your partner to also take the assessment, it will cost you another $14.95 at the Parrott's website. But in my opinion, it's well worth it.

The first thing we need to realize for genuine communication as husband and wife is that we communicate differently. Rather than just lumping all men and all women into two separate categories, the Parrotts lead each reader through a process that identifies his/her own unique communication style. Once both partners' styles have been identified, it is then that true "Love Talk" can begin.

I highly recommend this book to all couples seeking to improve the communication in their marriage. (What couple couldn't use some improvement?) Although possessing a strong Christian background, the Parrotts do not come across as "preachy," but as helpful, insightful, and even transparent as they draw from their own struggles as husband and wife.

I bought this book in hopes to find more knowledge about how to communicate better, however I soon discovered that the book coincides with a workbook. Every chapter describes scenarios/experiences that the authors went through but is followed by "please see the workbook" to find out on how to communicate better. So buy the workbook if you want to get the full use of this book as well as reap the benefits in your relationship.

On the upside the book does have some good examples of what types of communication styles there are. I hoped this is helpful.
