Fantastic,
This review is from: Love Tattoo (Audio CD)
A great American roots music offering. Her voice accompanied by jaw dropping guitar solos and a fierce thumping bass made me get up and buy it after hearing it while in a local book store. From the cover you would be forgiven to think that this was just another Rockabilly album, but that is not the case. Whats included here is a mixture of Rock, Blues,R'n'B, Jazz, R'n'R, Rockabilly etc with many tracks being more a fusion of these styles then of just one particular musical genre. It is this that makes it fresh and original and not just another retro 50's album.

Superb, torchy rockabilly: REAL MUSIC!,

If you go to hear Imelda May perform live, she's not doing to have dancers on stage, or a head mic, and there won't be any lip synching. This is a real singer with soul, attitude, and a great band behind her. Do yourself a favor and buy this record - this is what music used to be like, back when talent, not just looks, made the difference. "Love Tattoo" is a superb record, and Imelda May deserves to be heard.

I love this woman and I love this music! Imelda's singing will rip your heart out, and the band cooks. So buy this CD and give these young musicians a chance. BUT also consider that I finally gave up adjusting the bass and treble on the CD player in the car because I figured out that it was unfixable. I'm no audiophile by any means, but even to my ears the mix on this thing is just awful. Half the time the vocal is lost in the bass. Imelda, you really deserve a lot better presentation than this record company is giving you here. Frankly, the sound on the YouTube videos is way better.

Have to see Imelda & her band live!,

Headed into a Jamie Cullum show, I wondered who the opening act would be. The first time I heard Imeda May & her unbelievable talented band would be the same night. Everything about her and the band was a delight. She used the work rockabilly for some of the songs and blues for the others. The best comment I could make is that one work cannot describe their style or talent. I am a causual listener of rocabilly & blues but Imelda makes it something completely her own. They were just an amazing live band to watch. Oh yeah - the CD is great too (picked it up at the concert).

A New Artist Who Should Have An Interesting Career,
By
This review is from: Love Tattoo (Audio CD)
I first heard Imelda May when she recently appeared as a guest on a National Public Radio program. NPR played a few tracks from this album on air and I was sufficiently impressed that I ordered the CD from Amazon later that day.
The rest of this CD is as good as the tracks NPR played on air. This is May's debut album. It's on the Verve label, which has a long history of releasing top jazz artists. May has the talent to take her into the same league as some of Verve's other female vocalists; she's definitely a new artist to watch. May's music is a combination of 1950s jazz and rockabilly. Judging by the album photos and her comments on NPR, she's cultivating the 1950s image. The album photos show her sporting a very 50s hairstyle, a leopard spot top and tight fitting capri pants. All very 1950s. Although she's too young to have been around in the 1950s, she manages to pull off the 1950s style and sound really well, while adding her own twist to them. This is a new artist who should have an interesting career.

Wild about Imelda May's rockabilly/punk sound! This is an excellent album; I can't wait for Mayhem to make it to the states. Imelda May herself is fantastic, and her band is fun and obviously talented. I've started looking them up individually to see what else is out there with these artists.

Fell in love with her style on Jay Leno with Jeff Beck. Bought his Rock Party CD & Love Tattoo. Almost like her CD better!

A smile on my face and my toes get to tapping!,

Imelda May's voice is strong, powerful and smokey! Her music is upbeat, entertaining and has style. With a mixture of Jump Blues, Swing, Rockabilly and a touch of big band, Imaleda's music is right up my alley. The musicians in her band sound top-notch and the band is tight.
Imelda's smokey, sultry voice was a breath of fresh air the first time I heard 'Johnny's Got A Boom Boom'. I wish I could find a female vocalist with this strong a voice for my band! Imelda May seems to really enjoy the music she sings and the company she keeps on stage and in the studio. Love Tattoo has a good smattering of styles, all with a touch of vintage to them. It's a good touch too. There are some slower songs which Imelda does great credit to and the higher tempo stuff that really gets me going every time they come around on the old iPod! It's a well produced album that everyone in my family enjoys! I'm in my early 40's and when my oldest daughter looked at my wish list for gift ideas, her first response was, "Oh. I love Imelda May" The rest of my kids know who she is and love her music too/ My only regret was not discovering her earlier.

I saw Imelda May and her excellent band on Later... with Jools Holland and was really taken with them. She's a knockout and they are a totally committed band from the Teddy Boy looking guitarist on down. Watching them play and listening to this album, I got the sense that they aren't just trying to pay homage to early rock 'n roll and rockabilly, they feel it, believe it and practice it with their hearts and souls.
Starting with "Johnny Got A Boom Boom" with it's kicking beat and reverb spilling over was a real treat and the same goes for "Big Bad Handsome Man." And then on to the dark magic of "Got your Voodoo Working," this is a fine, fun album. Sorry, I mean CD. What i'm saying is it's got that vinyl feel to it. The only tune I wasn't crazy about was "Smokers Song." A little too frenetic and the chorus... I was very pleasantly surprised by the slow tunes they do. Torchy without being saccharine and it seems like she just believes in each word and every note. It'll be interesting to see how she follow this.

This band COOKS!,

I saw these guys on Abbey Road and immediately went and bought their album. The band's tight, driving rockabilly rhythms, and May's smokey-sexy, subtly tremulous voice and aching, behind-the-beat phrasing are irresistable. If there was ever an album that could give a guy blue balls, this is it. I dare you to listen sitting down.
