Inspiring words to live by,
By Melissa (Knoxville TN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love is the Thread: A Knitting Friendship (Paperback)
I read this book over Thanksgiving weekend which was very apropos since it reminds me to be thankful for what I have, especially the small gifts life sends our way. Each chapter ends with a statement of wise wisdom that sums up the "lesson" of that chapter. The chapters stand alone and are quickly read. I found it best to read a chapter and then mull it over for a bit. I was tempted to rush through the book to find where the trail of threads was leading, but resisting that temptation and letting the words seep into me was a better method.I enjoyed this read, especially the glimpses into this special friendship and the questions left unanswered - this would make for good book club material as you can endlessly discuss these points. I am still wondering what material token the author selected from Kristine's affects. I want more about the evolution the mountain house brought to the author's soul and work. The sign of a good book - always wanting more.

One of the most beautiful books I have ever read,
This review is from: Love is the Thread: A Knitting Friendship (Paperback)
There are books that bring enjoyment and ones, like this one, that are a profound experience. I stayed up way past my bedtime to devour this book then time with a tissue box dabbing tears of love in reflection of those who have shared my own journey mixed with moments of excitement thinking of friends who would love this book. Well, get your own copy girlfriend! My copy will forever be on my nightstand to pick up for a quick chapter, a pearl of wisdom or the beautiful description of spring on a cold February night. Definitely a winner for a book club!!! The many sweet layers of this book beg for discussion.Love is a Thread will weave magic in your soul.

As I read it I wanted to share a copy with my dearest friends,
By Lynne Murray "Author" (San Francisco, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love is the Thread: A Knitting Friendship (Paperback)
This is an amazing book. The lives of the author, her friend Kristine and other friends in her circle of knitters contain dark as well as light threads and a substantial amount of the grit of everyday life. Yet these real and heartfelt friendships, and the tangles of trouble that arise during the story somehow weave into a whole that glows with insightful meaning. Each person will find something different in the book. But even someone like myself who will never knit, do tai chi or reiki (I plead guilty to Buddhism and the occasional yoga stretch) will discover genuine understanding and some wise and loving strategies for living in these pages. As I said in the title, it's on my list to give to a close friend whom I know will also see herself and people she loves in its pages.

Touching Story of Women's Friendship,
By
This review is from: Love is the Thread: A Knitting Friendship (Paperback)
Leslie's writing style allowed me to go deeply into the story very quickly. This very important friendship emerges at a time in both women's lives when a focus outside of themselves is crucial and imperative to their individual healing. They hold each other up and emerge as friends who love unconditionally and deeply, relying on each other for support and affirmation.Leslie is a beautiful writer and has approached this memoir with humor, honesty, humility, truth and depth. I look forward to more books from her!

A sweet story of friendship,

This review is from: Love is the Thread: A Knitting Friendship (Paperback)
A sweet and touching recollection of friendship between women, told in lively anecdotes. The narrator relates meaningful memories of her times with her friend Kristine and their circle of friends, showing the beauty of ordinary moments in the face of impending tragedy. The narrator's voice is endearing and unassuming as she shares her own progress through various real-world difficulties, revealing how the fabric of our lives is woven together by the thread of our truest relationships. This was a delightful and easy read, one that will leave the reader feeling like a better person, inspired to appreciate his or her own life through the web of connections between people.

Love is the Thread: A Knitting FriendshipI laughed and cried and laughed and cried through the whole thing. The only terrible thing about this book is I've finished it already. I didn't want it to end. At first I had to put it down after each chapter. Kristine's living essence poured out at me through Leslie's sweet words and all the memories flooded out with tears making reading almost impossible. Then I couldn't put it down. I was swept up in the flow and power of each and every chapter. I'm already re-reading it and know it will be one of those bedside books I always keep nearby. Thanksgiving Day I delightedly showed the book I just finished to my dear friend June. "Look, here's Leslie's new book about her friendship with Kristine!" "Wonderful, can I borrow your copy?" she asked. I clung to the book wide eyed over the smell of turkey and stuffing cooking in her oven and flatly told her no. Instead I read her the Prologue and 2 chapters while she patiently prepared our meal. June was captured by the story and by the aliveness of Leslie's writing. She asked me to read her the book when we get together, a wonderful way to revisit this amazing memoire and to visit with Leslie and Kristine again. Leslie Moise is a powerful and captivating writer. She is also a dear and close friend. It's delightful and touching to see myself woven into some of these pages. Leslie has taught and continues to teach me so much as a friend, a healer and a writer. She inspires me by her skill and her example to continue my own writing. Beloved Kristine lives inside the pages of this compelling book and for that I weep in gratitude. Thank you, Leslie! All I can say now is "More Please!" |
