3.0 out of 5 stars A Love For Tomorrow
First of all, this is my first read by Vanessa Miller and while I enjoyed this book, I cannot recommend it because it defies what the Bible says about the role of women in the church. From a purely "I'm reading this because it's a good book, not filled with smut and foul language" standpoint, I could recommend it.

Serenity has just been dumped by Michael because...

4.0 out of 5 stars Give Love A Chance, October 11, 2010

This review is from: Love for Tomorrow (Second Chance at Love #2) (Paperback)
Serenity Williams cannot believe that her fiance has decided that he does not want to get married only a week before their wedding. Pastor Michael Randolph refuses to allow his soon-to-be wife to overshadow him and his ministry. Serenity has a popular Christian talk show and is reaching far more people than Michael. With that, they call off their engagement and Serenity swears she will never date another pastor. When Serenity's producer requests that she interview an up and coming pastor, she looks at this as her opportunity to out all pastors as being egotistical and full of themselves. Pastor Phillip McKnight is anything but those things, which shocks Serenity. For some reason she is totally drawn to him, but she remembers her pact to never date another pastor. Phillip makes it extremely hard, with his humble spirit and honesty. Just coming off a horrible divorce, he too, wants nothing to do with a serious relationship. But love has a funny way of showing up when you least expect it. Will Serenity and Phillip find love again in Vanessa Miller's A LOVE FOR TOMORROW?

Miller stays true to her amazing delivery of representing God's love. A LOVE FOR TOMORROW has parts that will make your heart stop. The characters have qualities that are easy to relate to and you want nothing but the best for them. On top of the great love story, Miller is able to infuse some suspense. What more can you ask for? This is book two in the Second Chance At Love series. Do not hesitate to pick this up even if you have not read the first book for it stands alone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Let Go and Let God, October 3, 2010
This review is from: Love for Tomorrow (Second Chance at Love #2) (Paperback)
A Love for Tomorrow by Vanessa Miller is a story that deals with past pains, life missions and learning to let go and move forward. In this novel, Serenity Williams, an evangelist who has grown up in a ministerial family, has seen the good, and what she believes are some of the worst things about being committed to people. These very things are why Serenity Williams has chosen the ministry route that she has, reaching and pouring into the hearts of many. Serenity's ability to touch lives at the same time remaining untouched, lead to her many emotional and relationship struggles. In addition to a family event Serenity witnessed in her youth, supporting characters Michael Randolph and Philip McKnight will help readers to understand Serenity's complexity.

I enjoyed reading this selection. My favorite character is Phillip McKnight. I think it was mostly because of his "been there, done that" mentality, and his patience and heart to really yearn to do what is right in the eyes of God. I closed this book believing that each character realized a lot about themselves and each other, and that they each had somehow grown for their own past experiences.

This book is very entertaining, touching upon issues such as "women in the pulpit," letting go of past emotional hurts and learning to live and love again. I would read other selections authored by Ms. Miller.

5.0 out of 5 stars A romantic sigh, August 14, 2010
This review is from: Love for Tomorrow (Second Chance at Love #2) (Paperback)
Vanessa Miller keeps getting better and better with this romantic stuff in her series. I enjoy a happy ending and A Love for Tomorrow delivers. If a man needs pointers on how to romance a woman, ask Phillip. Two hints: gift card and dressing room. That's all I've got to say!

I cheered on Serenity as she refused to settled for less, and I loved how she depicted the life of a preacher's kid (PK).

A Love for Tomorrow is a wonderful look at life, love and religion. This book will teach you look inside your soul and remember to put God fist and he will help to guide you in life to what is best for you. Serenity Williams is a wonder sister with her life on the right track until something is caused to bring her life to halt and she is forced to evaluate and regroup. I have read all Vanessa Williams books and would not miss ONE!! She brings everyday life in a crossing intersection with love and religion to make life seem so possible for every reader no matter if you are a believer or not. If you love page turners and read life struggles, you will love this book and all Vanessa's others book. A Love for Tomorrow is a wonderful read for all.

4.0 out of 5 stars She's a Christian Chick!, August 30, 2010

This review is from: Love for Tomorrow (Second Chance at Love #2) (Paperback)
I really enjoyed this second book in Vanessa Miller's Second Chance at Love series.

Serenity Williams is a good friend of Melinda Johnson's, from Miller's first book in the series - Yesterday's Promise, which I previously reviewed. Melinda was engaged to a man who didn't believe that a woman should be a minister. She used Serenity's relationship with her fiancé to prove that a man can, and should, support his successful, and Christian, woman.

This second book starts off with Michael, Serenity's fiancé, calling off their wedding just a week before the big date! She's devastated, as any woman would be.

Pastor Philip McKnight is an ex-football player who is interviewed on Serenity's religious television show. He's the first man she's interviewed on her show. He's a single father raising his daughter alone. He's trying to recover from his divorce.

Serenity has endured many hurts, and is a little (okay, a LOT) jaded when it comes to relationships. So, when Pastor McKnight takes an interest in her, she doesn't appreciate it. When she's told that she's stand-offish when it comes to her studio audience, she doesn't appreciate it. She needs to mellow out - and maybe, just maybe, Phillip McKnight is just the man to help her along. If she will allow him to.

Like I said, earlier, I enjoyed this book. The characters were fully developed and Vanessa Miller made Phillip McKnight another one of those good men who are hard to find...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book, March 16, 2011
This review is from: Love for Tomorrow (Second Chance at Love #2) (Paperback)
I liked this book better than the 1st edition in this series. It had romance and made me laugh out loud on a few parts. I felt like the characters and their issues were more true to life than the previous book. A love for tomorrow will not disappoint anyone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Christian Reading, January 23, 2011

I enjoyed this novel it has a message for women in the church. The bible verses serves to awaken critical thought to our roles as both Christians, working in ministry and Christian relationships. This novel speaks volumes to those of us raised up in ministry seeing things and not understanding the underlying causes. I would recommend this book highly for a focus group of women, particularly singles seeking marriage and those women married to men involved with ministry . It reveals that ministers are human and should be respected for that. We shouldn't make them into idols. Great read I can not wait for another novel by Vanessa.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Love for Tomorrow, December 24, 2010
This review is from: Love for Tomorrow (Second Chance at Love #2) (Paperback)
It was a pretty good book. I like how the main character, Serenity, was a strong, independent, successful, black woman and she found a strong, successful, independent black man to go with her. As similar to real life, some men don't miss the woman until she has gone and moved on, I am so glad that she was able to find someone else and she did not take the "ex" back. If more of us did that our counterparts would make wiser decisions before they decide a relationship cannot work. Kudos to Ms. Miller for writing this book and being versatile at portraying African American Christians from all different environments and socioeconomic backgrounds.

4.0 out of 5 stars (RAW Rating: 4.5) - Love Tomorrow, November 6, 2010
By
The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers (RAWSISTAZ.com and BlackBookReviews.net) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Love for Tomorrow (Second Chance at Love #2) (Paperback)
In A LOVE FOR TOMORROW, Serenity has been able to obtain a lot of things in life except the very meaning of her name. Her television show is thriving and growing due to her love for the Lord. When her fiancé, who is a minister, leaves her due to his insecurity with her fame, it reinforces the fortress she has built around her heart. All defense systems are go until she meets the off limits NFL player turned bible thumper Philip McKnight, who is scheduled to tell the world about his ministry.

Instead of embracing a man who would make Jesus smile, Serenity runs the other way to protect her broken heart. Miller is most known for her supernatural, evangelical thriller Rain series. Where she used great imagery and plot to deliver great stories about spiritual warfare, she has developed engaging dialogue and magnetic characters. This African American Christian love story offers the classic romance formula with surprising plot twists, conflict, and spiritual nuggets balanced to satisfy the literary appetite of readers across the fiction spectrum.
