5.0 out of 5 stars Destination: Fun!
We rented this video from the library because my two year old was on a train kick (due to Thomas the Tank Engine!). I wasn't sure would like it, since it's so different from the "Thomas" series. From the moment the tape came on until the moment it ended, my son was entranced! He sang and danced along with the video! He asked for it over & over again,...

2.0 out of 5 stars The narration will drive you nuts! Horrible narration!
Our family has many train videos created for children. This narration is so terrible that I cannot sit within earshot of this video when it is playing. A little boy, who speaks like a new talker, like a one-year-old, speaks in 2-3 word phrases, takes a breath and a pause, then another 2-3 word phrase, etc. Sentences are broken up in unnatural places and it is just highly...

Sentences are broken up in unnatural places and it is just highly annoying. Give us a break and have an adult narrate it the way a real sentence is spoken or at least an older child who can speak as the language is meant to be spoken. I am not trying to be mean but I do feel that for a high quality video the narration is important. Cutesy-wootsey is not desirable in my book, this child must be related to the creator of the video otherwise any professional producer would have gone for better narration. We've been listening to this video for over 6 months and I have been putting off writing this review but finally could not wait any longer, I just have to warn others about this before you make your purchase. There are plenty of other great train videos on the market for children that are better narrated. Just because a video is meant for a children's audience does not mean a toddler must narrate it.

Video shows both model trains and real trains. There is a very interesting segment about how new track is laid down with detailed description of how the men and machinery do the job. Nice long shots of video as well. Cute little jingles of upbeat music are heard.

Despite my complaints about the narration my 3 year-old son loves this video.

From the moment the tape came on until the moment it ended, my son was entranced! He sang and danced along with the video! He asked for it over & over again, until we finally bought the video here at Amazon (we bought the sets).

Not only are they fun, you learn a lot! The songs are kinda hokey, but very loveable & down-home-y!

If your children like trains of any sort, they will *love* this video!

5.0 out of 5 stars A half hour of non-stop fun, July 31, 2000

My 2 1/2 year old son loves trains so I decided to give this tape a try. He absolutely loves it. The first day, we watched it 6 times and he would have watched it again if I had let him. It is narrated by a boy about 7 or 8 yr old which is nice for kids. The music is so lively and upbeat I even enjoyed watching it. It shows a combination of toy trains like the Lionel and real trains. They show you how tracks are repaired and what it was like in the olden days with steam engines. Absolutely enjoyable. Any child who likes trains is going to love this tape. There are 7 in the series so far. I just purchased another one of them and we have only had this tape a couple weeks. I think we will end up owning the whole set.

Best train videos on the market. My Grandson has watched these dozens of times. He knows every Steam engine by site. It has been a great source of learning for him. He sings with the songs. We have the whole set. He started on these at age 2.5 and at 6 still uses them.
