Book Description

An A-List Movie Star. . .

Ryan Christensen just wanted to be an actor. Never in his wildest dreams did he imagine a life where fans would chase him, paparazzi would stalk him, and Hollywood studios would want to own him. While filming in Seaport, Rhode Island, Ryan ducks into a neighborhood bar for a quick escape from legions of screaming fans . . . and finds much more than he expected.

A Small-Town Girl. . .

Nursing a recent heartbreak, Taryn Mitchell believes men are best kept at a safe distance. But when Ryan Christensen unexpectedly bursts through the front door of her pub, she can’t help but be drawn in by his humor, charm, and undeniable good looks. At six foot two, with dirty blond hair, blue eyes, and an incredible body, Ryan has every girl in Seaport swooning. But Taryn isn’t every other girl.

A Relationship That Doesn’t Follow the Script. . .

Despite her better judgment, Taryn soon finds herself falling hard for Ryan. But is their bond strong enough to survive the tabloid headlines, the relentless paparazzi, and the jealous fans who seem determined to tear them apart?

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Loved! August 22, 2011
By kfogg
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have been trying desperately to find a book to compete with my love for Beautiful Disaster and finally found it! I absolutely loved this book and couldn't put it down. Once I finished it, I immediately went to page one and started it all over again. The characters are down to earth, well-rounded and easy to imagine. Ryan and Taryn's love starts out very organically and allows you to see how and why they fall for each other. The length of this book allows the reader to take their time getting to know Taryn and Ryan and follow their journey through highs and lows without feeling rushed and unconvinced of their depth of love for each other. The writing is believable and consistent throughout. There wasn't one part of the book that I didn't enjoy or was disappointed by the choice the author made to take the story. The minute the book is over you'll be begging for the sequel, Unrehearsed Love coming out later this year (not soon enough). If you love seriously romantic (without the cheese) heartwarming reads with sexy characters, that leave you feeling butterflies, then this book is for you. This book will not disappoint; these characters will stick with you and you'll be on pins and needles for more of their love story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Top-notch intelligent romance, perfect for Kindle December 12, 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
It started out wordy and insecure; given that it's 659 pages and a brick, I was a little worried at first.

Fortunately, once Taryn (our narrator and main character) gets comfortable, the pace smooths out beautifully, and the novel is a delight of strong, intelligent characters, believable plot, and sultry romance.

Taryn and Ryan go slowly with their relationship; both have good reasons to be wary. The reader gets a slowly and intelligently developed romance that holds up well against the fairy-tale impulses that overpower many a lesser novel. It's a good while before anything gets explicit, though there's honest steam long before.

I loved it. It's the best romance I've read in some time, and my five stars here is not merely "a good romance" but indicating a really good, fun novel, period. It will capture and hold your attention to the very end. The length was exactly right for the story, and I personally love being able to spend that amount of time with characters I enjoy. It's perfect for a day full of airports... other than being physically heavy. It's a novel ideal for Kindle and other e-readers, for sure.

The only caveat is that Taryn owns a bar, and there is a lot of drinking in the action. It didn't bother me, but I wouldn't suggest it for anyone with troubles with alcohol.

3.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining, but no depth March 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I was disappointed by this book given the good reviews that have been left on here. Yes, it's entertaining. Yes, it's a love story (not a great one, mind you). The synopsis pretty much tells all--famous movie star falls in love with girl who doesn't oogle over him and treats him like a normal person, girl loves guy but can't handle the pressure of being a movie star girlfriend, conflict arising from misunderstanding and miscommunication, etc. Throw in a stalker and some other weird obsessive competing love interest. Nothing new under the sun.

I liked it because it was a really easy read to pass time. I wasn't gripped by the story, but I did want to find out what happens, and it's definitely a book that you can pick up and put down, pick up and put down, multiple times a day. Also, the final few chapters had a nice little twist, so I didn't feel like it was a total waste of time reading this book.

I didn't like it because the writing is quite flat. Lots of exclamation points! even when they weren't really needed. Made me feel like I had to raise my voice every time I had to say something! I also did not like how everything always seems to just work out. The girl is a pub owner. And cute. And smart. And is good at investing, so she doesn't have to struggle financially. And makes a good steak. And is good in bed. And has a really nice apartment. And can make stained glass (!?). And has totally loyal friends. And is fully capable of having platonic relationships with cute guys, EXCEPT for the guy who adds to the plot twist. And designed her own kitchen. And designed her own roof garden. And plays the piano, and the guitar, and sings. And is good with children. And is really good at poker. The guy? Well, the guy is hot, and young, and is really a good actor despite his good looks. And falls in love with the girl, wants to marry her, and wants to have children with her. And he is totally down to earth. And comes from a wonderful family. You get my drift--it's like the author took appealing qualities from several different books and mashed them up together into these two characters. The story was also delivered quite superficially...not a lot of introspection, not a lot of insight about relationships, and there were a lot of times when I thought, "Really? People TALK like this? They say stuff like this?" A lot of the dialogue sounded like what the author thought people ought to say, rather than how people actually talk. The pace was odd too. There were a lot of slow patches where the two main characters just spend time together and we're shown how great they are with each other, but ten or twelve such episodes is a little too much.

I give it three stars because I knew I was getting myself into a standard no-brainer romantic story, which totally served its function of helping me waste time. But only three stars because I was disappointed--the book didn't live up to the expectations that the reviews gave me. I will not read this again unless I was really, really, really bored and had absolutely nothing better to do.
