5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best Cho Yun-Fat movies, June 20, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Love Unto Waste [VHS] (VHS Tape)
While this film's narrative and tones are most ironic and delicate, outlining the plot would be a failure from the beginning. Boy not so brainy(Tony Leung). Birthday party. Accidental encounter with two women (twentysomething and thirtysomething). Youthful promiscuity. Woman found murdered (thirtysomething). Eccentric police investigator (CYF) whose only curiosity is not about the identity of the murderer but the murdered woman's feeling. ("What did she see exactly while she wept?") Unlikely friendship of the investigator and the investigated. Abortion(twentysomething woman). And the most surprising and coldest ending ever made. I would not explain all. Despite the absence of action scene, Chow Yun-Fat is simply incredible. This film was released same year with A Better Tomorrow(1986), you'll see CYF's hair-style exactly same, in spite of huge distance of the roles. Love unto waste is an once-experienced-never-forget kind of movie. If you could get the glimpse of what CYF desparately tried to know, you certainly did not waste your precious time.
