The pink hearts and little girl on the cover attracted my 5 year old daughter to this book at the library. I was expecting an over the top, overly gushy book. However, the ending very pleasantly surprised me. It taught a valuable lesson about overcoming disappointment (as the girl sleeps thru Valentine's Day), about courage (celebrating the day late when she thinks others won't like it) and saying "I love you" all year round instead of reserving it only for Valentine's Day. With appealing artwork and reasonable rhyming, this was a pleasure to read and re-read to my kids. It's probably about a 4.5 but since I haven't found any other Valentine's Day books out there with this much class (usually just about giving Valentine's cards at school), I bumped it to 5 stars.

My daughter brought this book home from the library and we all just love it! I had to buy it, as it is now a favorite and her 2 younger sisters can enjoy it also. It is extremely cute and entertaining to read. The illistration of the book is absolutely darling. Kudos to the entire book!

The rhymes in this book are just so cute. A really fun book to read! We enjoyed reading it, several times!

Ruby Valentine loves Valentine's Day--because it's a day when she gets to tell the people of her town how much she loves them. Ruby and her pet bird, Lovebird, work tirelessly making cards, heart shaped cookies, curling ribbons, and more. They pile their things on a wagon and place a sign high on top that reads "Love, Ruby Valentine." After heading upstairs, Ruby picks out the perfect outfit and fixes her hair for the next day, all before falling fast asleep. But, she's way more tired than she realized and when she wakes to find she's slept through Valentine's Day Ruby is devastated! Lovebird urges Ruby to get dressed and pass the Valentine's out a day late. Ruby is reluctant but finds that the people in town are overjoyed to find out she loves them on any old day of the year.



Written in rhyme, this book is delightful all the while teaching kids that you can overcome disappointment, how to find courage, and--most important to Ruby--that you don't have to wait till Valentine's Day to tell someone you love them. The text coupled with crazy-gorgeous watercolor illustrations make Love, Ruby Valentine unputdownable all year long.

This is one of those cute rhyming books that is just fun to read. It is about Ruby Valentine and her bird. Valentine's Day is their favorite holiday. Ruby and her bird work so hard making special valentines for everyone in the days leading up to the holiday that they end up sleeping through it and missing it. They deliver the valentines anyways and Ruby learns that it doesn't have to be Valentine's Day to show others you care.
