VERY ENJOYABLE ALBUM. MR. PHILLIPS IS A DISCIPLE OF THE URBIE GREEN SCHOOL OF BEAUTIFUL BALLAD PLAYING AND BASICALLY SWING JAZZ CHOPS. I HAD NEVER HEARD OF HIM BEFORE AND ON FIRST LISTEN HE REMINDED ME OF MAYBE DAN BARRETT OR GEORGE MASSO. FOR ME, THE MOST INTERESTING THINGS ABOUT THE ALBUM ARE THE SELECTION OF TUNES , THE CARE TAKEN WITH THE ARRANGEMENTS AND PHILLIPS' REALLY SUPERIOR TROMBONE TECHNIQUE: VERY TASTY. I WISH HE HAD INCLUDED A BIT OF BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION ABOUT HIMSELF AND THE SIDEMEN IN THE LINER NOTES.

I heard a cut from this album on a Chicago-area college radio station (College of DuPage).

I thought it was outstanding! Great tonality, superb harmonies. Lots of energy. Wow!

I look forward to hearing the rest of the album.

I have had the distinct pleasure of hearing both Russ Phillips, Jeanne Lambert and some of the musicians live and am pleased that the world can now share the experience. I've given this CD to friends from 20- to 90-years old and they've all been pleased with the choice of tunes, Phillips' versatile trombone, the unusual string arrangement in the classical tradition, and the distinctive vocals (Lambert's rendition of Blues in the Night should not be missed). This is the work of very talented musicians and vocalists with great arrangements.
