Book Description

July 1, 1999
Of Love and War is a novel set against the backdrop of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. It is factually accurate, with a 35-book bibliography, but has fictional characters interwoven with the historical ones, including the Japanese point of view. Beginning with the Louisiana Maneuvers where Patton and Eisenhower dueled, the story moves to Washington, then onto Honolulu. On the actual day of the attack, the reader experiences what occurred in both Washington and Honolulu, along with the Japanese attack force. $2 from the sale of each book will be donated by the publisher to the World War Two memorial in Washington.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Here is a novel that brings the reader face to face with the events that defined the lives of a generation. I enjoyed it very much." -- Duff Bruce, The Open Book, Greenville, SC

"Steve Brown writes with such immediacy that, when he describes the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor, though you know the outcome, you have to keep reading to find out how the battle turns out." -- Ann Rabon, Spartanburg Herald-Journal

"This story brings back memories of the way we were . . . before Pearl Harbor changed our lives." -- Jack Fanjoy, Q.M. 3C USS Tidewater

Of Love and War is a fast moving novel based around Pearl Harbor. You experience the attack from several individual perspectives. Once you get into chapter 3 you will find it hard to lay it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well researched Pearl Harbor book, August 7, 1999

This review is from: Of Love and War (Paperback)
The research for this book was excellent. I got the feeling that I got an accurate depiction of what went on in Washington as well as Hawaii. Mixing this history into a fictional story made it interesting.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intense, absorbing & hard to put down., July 31, 1999

This review is from: Of Love and War (Paperback)
Steve Brown writes with the best of them. His novel, "Of Love and War", is one of the best I have ever read about the 40's and the entrance of the US into WWII. His research is flawless and his characters are real and believable. It is easy to get caught up in this one and hard to put down. I lived through the era and spent 26 years in the military. Looking forward to a sequel.
