Review

I've always said that the best teachers are storytellers, and Jamie George is one of the best storytellers I know. I've been blessed by hearing him tell his stories in person for years. Now it's your turn!
(Dave Ramsey 2014-09-24)

Jamie's book arrived at a time in my life when I'm learning the difference between loving others and loving myself. What's selfish? What's self-care? What's unconditional? Help! Let's be honest, when are any of us not absolutely dying to love and be loved well?
(Hayley Williams 2014-09-24)

In Love Well, George offers us a spiritual harvest of connection—with God, ourselves, and others—so we can wade through our stuck places and start moving again.
(Mark Batterson 2014-09-24)

Holy cow. Jamie George. This guy is an amazing communicator. This book made me come alive and gave me the tools to get unstuck in areas where I had no hope. I can't wait to see what impact it's going to have on the world. This book is special.

I'm so thankful for the stories in this book & for Jamie's willingness to be vulnerable in exposing both the joys & the struggles of being a pastor & husband.

I have personally seen his leadership up close. Jamie is a friend, a mentor, a life coach, my boss, & my pastor. His ability to tell story & to reframe the Gospel through a narrative lens has allowed me to experience God's love story with fresh eyes.

If you've been hurt & abused by the religious systems of this earth, I highly encourage you to read "Love Well", as I believe it will give you hope for the Church & many of its pastors. It has certainly done that for me.

Love this book! Finally a pastor who is real and authentic about his own struggle! I could totally relate to his being stuck and it really helped me move forward through my own junk that's been holding me back. I enjoyed the conversational format in how it was written and can tell George is a brilliant storyteller! It's so refreshing to read a book that is about loving and not judging and living life vulnerably instead of in fear. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants more out of life and relationships and isn't willing to settle for a superficial existence.

Not many sons have had the opportunity to have parents who so openly share the darkest parts of their marriage with them. As teenagers, it was hard to watch our parents fight and argue whether it was screaming at each other or silently yelling at night because they thought we couldn't hear them.
But Jesus is the redeemer and that's exactly what he did with their marriage and without that pain Love Well would not exist.
So we praise God for the pain all of us went through so that hopefully you can learn something from the brokenness in our lives.
We can proudly say that our father truly Loves Well.

This is a wonderful book! It's about forgiveness and vulnerability and listening and joy and contentment and taking time to build meaningful relationships...it's written from a place of humility and great wisdom. I finished it and felt like I wanted to hug everyone I knew, to be a better listener and support to my husband, to be a more attentive friend, to not be so busy/harried, to consciously work to build and maintain relationships...it's really good. I read it quickly because it resonated with me so much, but I will reread it more carefully starting tomorrow. The advice is sound, not easy...and it rings so true for all relationships. Along the way, the author quotes from two of my favorite authors: Wallace Stegner and Wendell Berry; spends a good deal of time unpacking two of my favorite Bible stories: that of Joseph (Coat of many Colors, being sold into slavery, Potiphar's wife, prison, redemption, forgiveness) and the Prodigal Son (I always identify with the bitter older brother who was good all along and gets no moment in the sun...this book helped me see myself as the Prodigal Son himself, and it moved me greatly)... He also alludes to Narnia, White Christmas, Mr. Rogers, Rocky, Les Mis, Lord of the Rings...it feels like you're having coffee with a really old friend who is blessed with insight and practical advice, the kind of friend who helps you see the world differently, who doesn't want to see you staying stuck in any way. Highly recommend.

Truth is something unfortunately we rarely experience anymore. We all want to put a post on social media or put out there in conversation that everything is good with us. Why can't we tell the truth when our marriage is on the brink, our shame inside is overwhelming us, or the fear of being vulnerable drives us to lie. It's because most of us have never experienced what it means to love well. I'm committed to loving others more after reading this book, and I'm finding that when I share Truth even when it makes me vulnerable people are able to finally tell me some truth in return. This is a must read for anyone that wants to finally stop living out lies and instead learn to live in the truth. I've been amazed since applying the 12 steps how much my wife and kids have loved me well in return.

The title says it all. Pick up this book and jump in with an open mind. If we could even start loving well in our families and with our friends, just think of the possibilities . This book considers some of those issues, struggling through a tough marriage, and reframing how God asks us to love people both in and and out of church. The format of the book makes for an easy and very relatable read. I really appreciated the honesty and vulnerability shown through Jamie's personal story. It is a breath of fresh air that you should not miss. Read this book and let it challenge you to "Love Well" even when it is not easy.

"Stuck? Say it. Acknowledge it. Open your eyes." Those words are the first encouragement at the end of Chapter One of Love Well, by Jamie George. They are the foundation that will change your life which will vicariously change the lives of those around you. Each chapter adds another encouragement, building slowly as you shed the weight of being someone other than the person God has designed. My easy-to-read copy is highlighted, written in and dog-eared. It is loved well. The spacing between sentences/paragrahs gives you time to think, breathe and make notes. Buy two and give one away.
