Illustrates how great a singer Anita Pointer is, March 21, 2008
This review is from: Love for What (Audio CD)
This solo album by Anita Pointer illustrates what a tremendous singer she really is. She really has a gifted voice, and can sing so effortlessly that it's taken for granted how wonderful her vocal talent really is. On all 9 of the songs here , Anita pours out her heart , and listening to her is just a sheer pleasure. Knowing all her work in the Pointer Sisters , where she sang lead on a majority of their biggest hits [ FIRE, SLOW HAND, I'M SO EXCITED, YES WE CAN CAN, HOW LONG , FAIRYTALE and others ], this album represents more sides to her that you might not know. There are some fine songs, and even better performances on this solo project. Many of the songs are uptempo, and Anita can really belt it out , as heard on HAVE A LITTLE FAITH IN LOVE, BEWARE OF WHAT YOU WANT and LOVE ME LIKE YOU DO, just a few of my favorites here. LOVE FOR WHAT IT IS is a slower number that Anita really tears it up on. You won't be disappointed hearing Anita soar on this song. TEMPORARILY BLUE is a beautiful ballad with steel guitar , and is a standout here also. Philip Bailey duets with Anita on THE PLEDGE. Producer Preston Glass does a fine job , and Anita just sounds tremendous. It's somewhat Pointer Sisters sounding, but a bit different as well in that it's not a group album. It's nice to listen to this, and June Pointer's solo albums as well. Her daughter Jada, and Linda " Peaches " Green sing background, and it all sounds great. I definitely recommend this to any fan of the group and Anita's. You will hear some deep cuts here that are yours to discover and enjoy.

Very Decent - Just Not Righteous..., September 15, 2005
This review is from: Love for What (Audio CD)
To start with, I'm a huge admirer of The Pointer Sisters. I never say 'fan', because that construes 'fanatic'. I do own ALL of The Pointer Sisters albums on CD. [Three of four early Blue Thumb recordings, and "Energy", "Priority", "Special Things" "Black & White" and "So Excited" on CDR, as these were never available on CD]. I recently found out that June Pointer had two solo albums "Baby Sister" on Planet and "June Pointer" on Columbia, and that Anita had released "Love For What It Is" on RCA. I immedately had to have all three. This is a very decent effort - Anita's vocals are in fine form, and the production is right up there as well. There is nothing 'WRONG' with this album. The problem, I think, is that none of the songs are particularly memorable. You don't find yourself humming any melody after the song finishes, as you really don't recall it. This RCA album was released in 1987, probably either right before TPS's "Hot Together", or after "Contact" [both incredible albums]. This album comes close to neither, but is a pleasant album with decent production, and of course Anita's strong vocals. I'd have to say this would be for the purist only, or those wanting the complete discography of the Pointer Sisters. Anita, I love you - but 'Break Out', 'Contact', 'Hot Together', 'Serious Slamming', 'Right Rhythm', or 'Only Sisters Can Do that', it aint...! But it IS now a valued part of my collection.
