This is Chanté's first solo recording after Exposed and her debut album for the jazz oriented Peak Records label.
"Love The Woman" showcases Chanté's trademark soul stirring, ultra smooth and hypnotic vocals. The sexy phrasing, the funky sounds and the rapturous, rich vocals all combine for a vibe that's unmistakably urban. Her highly anticipated new album also includes production by Grammy award winner Raphael Saadiq (Whitney Houston, Mary J. Blige, The Isley Brothers, and D'Angelo) and Warryn Campbell (Jamie Foxx, Yolanda Adams, Mary Mary, and Mario). The album reunites Chante Moore with her longtime musical mentor, legendary producer/piano master George Duke (credits include great dames of jazz/soul Regina Belle, Anita Baker, Dianne Reeves and Marilyn Scott ) who helped launch her career in the early 1990's, on Minnie Ripperton's "Give Me The Time". There are some 'contemporary R&B' moments. but she demonstrates her skills as a jazz vocalist on two standards : Nancy Wilson's classic "Guess Who I Saw Today" and one of Aretha Franklin's early recordings, "Start of Something Big". "It Ain't Supposed To Be This Way" and "Do For You" are lovely and "First Kiss" is a delicious song, vocalised in a samba style, which suits Chante's tender delivery perfectly. Some of George Duke's usual jazz fellows join in : Lenny Castro on percussion, Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, Ray Fuller on guitar and Brian Bromberg on bass. George Duke plays solos on keyboards and harmonica. The album is very well crafted and polished. Maybe it's too polished. Chanté sings in great fashion in the same way that she was used to sing fifteen years ago, it seems that nothing has changed here. And this is actually the weakness of the recording. There is nothing new, no ground breaking, and also no breaking from the past. Also the songs are pretty predictable and sound all the same, her lyrics are romantic but not really fresh. At the end of the listening, you cannot realize which is which. All in all, a good album, but not great.

My expectations were high for Chante's new album, but after listening to all tracks I was very disappointed. She has such a beautiful and amazing voice, but she didn't use her skills on this one. I felt like her voice could have been alot stronger. Out of twelve tracks I only liked three...Always Gonna Be Something, Do For You and Love This Woman. Maybe she needed hubby on this one to make her bring it like I know she can!

I LOVE this CD. Despite other reviews which make you think it's weak, forget it! Buy it you won't be sorry. If you purchase it at Circuit City it has a bonus cut, This Could be the Start of Something Big taken from Aretha Franklin's version 1965 CD called, "YEAH". This is classic Chante' ya'll. ALL GOOD.

I love Chante, but...,

this is rather disappointing... After all this time away from solo recording, I really had high expectations for this recording. I was hoping it was a return to the sound of A LOVE SUPREME. What an overall letdown -- Chante really deserves better than this. Two highlights are her rendition of the Nancy Wilson-identified standard "Guess Who I Saw Today" and especially Minnie Riperton's "Give Me Time" -- in fact, based on this and the previously recorded Minnie song, "Here We Go", how about having Chante record a tribute to Minnie Riperton for her next project (and make it sooner rather than later). Are you listening Peak Records? Let the lady sing instead of burying her under production and background vocals!

The people who are disappointed in this cd because it doesn't sound enough like her first two maybe had their expectations set too high because of the LONG wait for new solo Chante music. My expectations were set on super-high as well.
If you listen carefully and more than once, you'll be assured that this cd is DEFINITELY tipping its hat to those first two cds. Remember, there were a lot of urban beats on those cds as well. The production is rich and soothing, and her vocals are still amazing--love those supersonic high notes! She also gives us two straight out jazz numbers and what treats those are. The title cut "Love The Woman" could be programmed right after "Love's Taken Over" on your very own mix tape. "First Kiss" reminds me of "I Want a Love Like That Again" from cd #1. I could go on, but suffice it to say that Chante and her producers honored her fans with this cd by including enough of the sounds we've loved since the 1st cd to make the purchase worthwile. Give the lady a break, fans!!

that there is a problem with this CD, because in general is pretty good. As a matter of measuring expectations, I should say that Precious was by far her best and the others were mediocre to me. Chante is by far one of the more exceptional vocalist over the past 10 - 15 years. She deserves to be among the group that would include Rachel Ferrel, Jill Scott and very few others. She can really sing. I personally think that the problem is in the material she chooses and the producers she works with. Both are below the standards of what her vocals are capable of producing, thus making her overall productions kind of....ordinary and mediocre. The Rafael Sadiq song, "Special" is a nice R&B piece, but the arrangement is busy electronically, so if you listen to it on a good piece of equipment, it's disruptive. The two arrangements by Sheila ???? "It Ain't Supposed to Be This Way" and "First Kiss" showcase her vocals well, with one being more R&B and the other having a nice "samba" feel to it. Then there's the George productions...."Give Me Time" is beautifully arranged, musicianship is ON, and her vocals rise to the occasion. "Guess Who I Saw Today" is good and I really love how George perserved the integrity of the original in terms of musicianship (again), but it's not a standard that should ever be remade. No one can ever sing this song with same silky, staccato that the great Nancy Wilson uses....
That said, the other tunes all blend together and none really stand out to me, but again I think it's the material...it's not Chante. It's worth the buy, because it's just nice to hear her voice again...I will continue to purchase her recordings and hope for the best....she should probably be a jazz vocalist and just add a little R&B to the blend.

Simply Chante',
This review is from: Love the Woman (Audio CD)
I LOVE this CD, I have been waiting and it was worth the wait, just to hear Chante' sing is all that matters to me, there have been plenty of artist that I have liked but Chante' always pulls me back in her direction, I still enjoy "Precious", A Love Supreme, This Moment is Mine and Exposed, Uncovered/Covered and Things That Lovers Do.

While Chante' Moore may not have expanded on unfamiliar territory with this disc, she did chart recognizable waters that made me glad that I purchased this. Her vocal range is still as powerful and the songs were tailor-made for her. My favorite that I keep spinning in my player is GIVE ME TIME. I just love the way she croons that song! The entire disc is truly a Chante' Moore's fans dream and while some may see it as being dull, boring and/or a little too jazzy, I saw it as keeping her relevant in today's half-naked/skin-tight female artists who would rather show than sing. YOU GO, CHANTE'!

This is Chante's best collection of material since her debut in
1992. These songs are tailor-made for her beautiful smooth style. I can't get enough of "It's Always Gone Something." And her cover of Minnie's "Give Me Time" is really beautiful. Kudos to Chante for keeping the quality of her output high. It's a shame she's not selling and being heard by a more massive audience.
