Book Description

October 15, 2008 9 and up4 and up
The I Love to Write Book is a get-started guide to launch young writers on a journey to success . . . in the classroom and beyond.

The I Love to Write Book is an instructional and inspirational get-started guide for young writers, ages 8-14, to launch them on a journey to become successful, confident, and self-motivated writers. Featuring many practical tips, techniques, and exercises, the book is ideal for use in the classroom as well as individually. Published in support of national ''I Love To Write Day,'' celebrated each year in mid-November in more than 20,000 schools and libraries. Includes activities, worksheets, and examples for developing ideas, observing the world, writing different types of pieces (such as news articles, book reviews, thank-you letters, how-tos, and more) and best practices for writing poetry and fiction. Also covered are the basics of revising work and submitting pieces for publication. While ideal for classroom use, the book focuses on writing for personal satisfaction, community impact, and publication.

The I Love to Write Book features a preface by John Riddle, founder of ''I Love To Write Day.''

Editorial Reviews

Review

An ideal gift for the young potential author in one's life. --Midwest Book Review

An extremely well-done guide. The book offers practical advice for writers. Heck, even an adult would benefit from this clear, straightforward guide. --BookLoons Reviews

A most welcome source for educators and children -- both inspiring and practical. Her enthusiasm for teaching young people to write will grab the attention of teachers, librarians, and kids themselves. Teachers need her straightfoward text. Librarians can recommend it whole-heartedly to the public. And kids will grow in their writing skills enthusiastically. Buy two copies! One for yourself, and one to share! --Jan Irving, author of Stories NeverEnding (2004) and Stories, Time and Again (2005), and consultant in the field of children's literature and library services to children

My grandchildren, age nine and twelve, are thrilled with Mary Lane Kamberg's tips and tricks for writing good stories, essays and poems. This book is a must for budding young writers. Though it is written for children, it provides great suggestions for grownups too. It is easy to read and jam packed with ideas on how to get started, write and complete projects.

5.0 out of 5 stars The I Love to Write Book Is The Best!, November 11, 2008
This review is from: The I Love To Write Book - Ideas & Tips for Young Writers (Paperback)
My ten year old grandson Jake never liked to write until he attended Mary Lane Kamberg's "I Love To Write Camp" this summer. Much of the presentation was based on her new book "The I Love To Write Book" and after monitoring a couple of classes with Jake I can tell you the book is a powerful motivational writing tool. As an author who has written award winning novels and fifty nostalgic essays during the past 25 years I assure you Mary Lane's book is a must buy! Even though "The I Love To Write Book" is written for children the tips and tricks will appeal to adults as well. The depth of Kamberg's writing runs from cookbooks and hundreds of articals and essays on a variety of subjects and of all things her most recent publication is Bono: Fighting World Hunger and Poverty. Mary Lane has won so many awards that her husband Ken had to build an extra room on their house to hold all of ML's literary treasures.
