Book Description

September 1, 2010
Go deep into the heart of Mystic Falls with this episode-by-episode look at the first season of The Vampire Diaries. Premiering in the thick of the vampire craze, The Vampire Diaries has proven itself to be much more than yet another addition to the overpopulated, undead pop-culture racket. Its mix of romance, horror, drama, and humor has won it great ratings for The CW, international acclaim, and a growing and devoted fan base. Love You to Death: The Unofficial Companion to The Vampire Diaries is the essential guide to the show, featuring: * the story of L.J. Smith who first introduced Elena and the Salvatore brothers in her best selling book series; * background on Kevin Williamson (Dawson’s Creek, Scream) and Julie Plec (Kyle XY), the masterminds behind the adaptation from page to screen; * biographies of the actors who bring Mystic Falls’ residents to life (. . . or afterlife); * insightful explorations of each episode with information on the rich history, supernatural mythology, film references, character development, and much more; and * exclusive interviews with TVDers, like the much-loved Malese Jow (Anna) and the fandom's fearless leaders. With photos of the irresistible cast and of the show’s filming locations, Love You to Death captures the fun, fangs, and fear that make The Vampire Diaries so epic.

5.0 out of 5 stars An essential purchase for all TVD fans September 11, 2010
By Blossom
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have been a HUGE fan of this show ever since I started watching it last September, but as I live in Ireland I had to download the episodes each week as they aired in the US. I have since watched each of them five times and absolutely love everything about the show as a whole. IMO it's the best new TV show since 'LOST'.

As soon as I heard there was going to be a companion book to the show I just had to purchase it and I am SO happy I did. This book is FANTASTIC and I have read it several times since receiving it. There is a Season 1 episode guide, but unlike many guides that just say what happens in each episode, this goes directly into the heart of everything and details what the consequences of each character's actions will be, which I find REALLY interesting, as it really gets you thinking.

The cast itself has been perfectly chosen and there is also a section of the book that's devoted to the actors and actresses as well as the show's creators, Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec and even L.J. Smith, who wrote the source material that the show is based on.

I really hope there will be a similar book published for Season 2 and please don't let the word 'Unofficial' on the cover put you off purchasing this, as it's truly a must-buy for all fans of the show.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Sparknotes-like Guide to The Vampire Diaries August 22, 2011
By Duckie
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
"Love You To Death" is an episode guide to the first season of the popular television show, The Vampire Diaries. This book reminds me of spark notes to season one of the show.

Book Set-Up
*First, the book starts with an intro on how each episode is summarized and set-up. The next chapter provides a bit of information about the writer of the Vampire Diaries book series, L.J. Smith, and tons of info about the shows creators.

*Next is a section of bios on the major characters/cast of TVD, from how their careers started to where they grew up, there are several bits of information on each each actor/actress.

*Next is the main part of the book, the episode guide. The guide is outlined episode by episode with the same questions and categories answered about each one. There is also random information thrown in throughout the episodes summaries about behind-the-scenes, related books and movies that the episodes drew inspiration from, minor character bios and more.

*In the middle of the guide is 9 full page, colored pictures of the main characters along with a few quotes from the show.

*The last sections of the book includes three interviews and a time-line. The first interview is with the writers of a book called, "A Visitor's Guide To Mystic Falls," which is a collection of TVD essays. The next interview is with one of the extras who works on The Vampire Diaries show, who tells us what it's like working the main characters as well as how it feels to watch the show in the making. The last interview is with TVD cast member Malese Jow, aka Anna.

*The last section of the book is a time-line in which Calhoun tries to place together each event, going all the way back to the 1400's, from the first season of The Vampire Diaries.

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved the book February 9, 2011
By Mena
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I have purchased the book and it is a great companion to the First Season DVD of The Vampire Diaries. This show is awesome. My favorite character? Damon Salvatore. Ian Somerhalder is awesome as Damon. So much talent. I am digressing as this is a review for the book. Right? Anyhow, it has a lot of details about each episode and I like that. I would suggest to other fans of the show to purchase the book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book, but came out a little soon November 4, 2010
By Naomi
Format:Paperback
This is a great book for giving episode summaries, as well as details on the cast, the book series, and how the tv show came about

My one complaint is that the book feels VERY thin as it's only covering the first season. It's almost like it got rushed into print to cash in on the popularity of the show...I'm surprised the author didn't wait to release the book for a time when she could cover the first two seasons (as she did with her Gossip Girl guide). This is a good book, but it feels very unusual for a tv show companion like this to only cover one season, and I question how she will fill out the guide for season 2 without repeating herself with the cast info and other details in the beginning

I still give the book four stars because it is very informative and interesting to read, but I wish it hadn't been rushed out quite so soon.
