This title is a worthwhile addition to the shelves crowded with self-help marriage books. The author, host of a talk radio show, varies the standard formula: simple explanations of emotions, case studies, and self-help exercises. His exercises, more complicated than the standard multiple choice forms, involve both partners (most only expect the reader to do the work) and often call for maintaining diaries over time to get an in-depth understanding of behaviors. The reader then learns how to use the positive behaviors to enhance the marriage. The work is based on a useful typology of behavior patterns that is sufficiently broad to help the reader identify his/her category and then apply the other materials most usefully. John M. I enjoyed reading this book. It thoroughly explains many of the problems present in modern day relationships. It also offers many solutions that will save couples from separation.

Dr. Viscott gives sound, useful advice. However, because of Viscott's overly fast rate of speech, one will miss much of what of the excellent advice he has to give unless the tapes are played over and over again.

This book was written by a man who has a lot of experience helping couples. There are practical quizzes in it that a couple can take and discuss to help them learn more about each other and about the problems they are having in a relationship. Dr. Viscott gives great advice on how to handle jealousy, people growing apart, the need for space, and much more.
