Amazon.com Review

Do you ever feel like your life is moving at the speed of light? Are you constantly trying to keep up with all of your commitments and responsibilities? In this day and age when modern communication and technology cause our lives to move faster than ever, many people struggle to strike a balance between all the segments of their lives--family, friends, career, social obligations, and self.

As co-pastor of Lakewood Church--America's largest church--Victoria Osteen understands intimately how day-to-day responsibilities can pile up and at times feel overwhelming. As a wife and mother, she sets the tone for her household and acts as a role model for her family. As a minister, she reaches out to an enormous community of people who look to her for guidance, strength, wisdom, and encouragement. She knows as well as anyone that operating in so many different roles can be extremely demanding, yet she has managed to find balance, living her life in the unforced rhythms of grace. If you ask her, she'll tell you that she loves her life and she wants you to love your life, too.

No matter where you are in your life, no matter what responsibilities you may carry, you can find peace, balance, and enjoyment in every area of your life; but it all starts with you. You have more power inside you than you realize; all you have to do is learn to tap into what you already have! As you begin to recognize your own abilities and influence, and use them in healthy ways, all the other areas of your life will fall into order.

In Love Your Life, Victoria shares from her personal life experiences and her journey of faith the lessons she's learned that have made her the woman she is today. As you read, you'll feel like you're in a conversation with a trusted friend as Victoria shows you how to tap into all that God has given you to live effectively--as a positive influence on the world around you. You'll be inspired by stories of victory and challenged to live at a higher level. You'll read about people who have accomplished incredible things by overcoming their fears, and people who have changed the world around them by simply recognizing their own value.

A life well lived does not come easily; you have to set out for it, look for it, and make it happen. Love Your Life shows how to turn the challenges of each day into opportunities to love and appreciate all that you are.

Victoria Osteen An Interview with Victoria Osteen

”Victoria Q: What inspired you to write the book and how did you come to the title?

A: I founded the women’s ministry here at Lakewood Church which now has several hundred women. It was through conversations with these women about the issues that were important to them where I discovered we all share many of the same concerns and issues. I wrote the book in order to address those issues. The title, Love Your Life just came to me one day.

Q: What motivates you in your work on a daily basis?

A: I see how God is using this ministry to touch people all over the world. We get thousands of letters and emails from people whose lives have been changed, who have found hope in the midst of adversity, and who are inspired to keep rising higher in their everyday life.

Q: You have inspired so many people with your message. Who has inspired you the most?

A: My parents and my husband have been my greatest inspiration. I have always been blessed in this way. My parents not only instilled faith in me but they taught me the importance of family as well. Joel inspires me on a daily basis. He lives such a life of mercy, compassion and integrity.

Q: How do you think life has changed for your children vs. how things were for you when you grew up?

A: Actually, things are not that different. My family was very close to one another just as we are today. Perhaps, the biggest difference might be that my kids live near all of their cousins, aunts and uncles while I grew up several hundred miles from mine. My kids are able to interact with their extended family on a daily basis and I think that is great. Growing up, I would have liked to see my cousins as much as my kids get to see theirs.

Q: Does your full schedule allow you some quality time by yourself? What is your favorite way to relax?

A: I enjoy exercising and reading. But my favorite way to relax is to just hang out with Joel and the kids. We laugh and have great fun together.

Love your Life is a book writen in love, hope and compassion. It appears to me that Victoria wrote this book with the intent to help people improve their lives. The book feels like she is talking to you openly and trying to help you with life's challenges.

Victoria is an encourager and she discusses the importance of encouraging ourselves and others. She also encourages her readers to celebrate their successes big and small and celebrate other peoples successes with them.

Some readers may learn a different way of looking at things. Everyone has unfair things that happen to them in their lives, and some people have more than others. The question is how can we deal with these bad things that happen and overcome them and live life fully and whole? Afterall, the challenges of today bring the opportunities of tomorrow.

This book could be especially good for people (male or female) who feel inside themselves that they have to be perfect to be loved, or that they are unloveable or unworthy no matter what they do. We are each God's perfect creation and he loves us. God knows we are not perfect and he loves us despite our faults and our nature to sin. We are called to love our neighbor as ourself, but, if we do not love ourself than how much could we possibly love our neighbor? We must love ourselves before we can truly love others. Victoria guides the reader on a path of understanding that each person is important and has value.

Victoria attempts to bring each reader to a place of God's love, hope, healing, freedom and peace in their lives. Victoria's advice is sound bibical advice and I believe that Christians and non Christians could bennefit from this book depending on the persons openness.

This book has really helped in my personal growth and in becoming closer to God. Definitely feel more positive and have a brighter outlook on life! Thank you, Victoria! Wish I could give her a big hug for all the work she put into this book, for her positive influence on others and for all the unselfish ways she and Joel reach out to many :-)

Victoria's great devotion to her family will inspire you to be a more loving wife and mother. Positive thinking for women has never sounded so good or been more encouraging. Joel Osteen's fans will enjoy learning more about how Joel and Victoria set priorities, agree to disagree at home, and build a happier family. Men can learn from Victoria's perspectives on marriage, relationships, and parenting, as well.

The book is built around 11 themes, each of which is the subject of a chapter as follows:

Is Victoria Osteen teaching contrary to what Jesus taught? "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's the same shall save it," He says in Mark 8:35. Matthew 10:39 emphasizes the same principle. Or could it be that when Scripture is evaluated with Scripture in a broader context the subtle truth emerges, i.e., that what she's advocating in this book is the message that Jesus says summarizes all the law, i.e., to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind and love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37-40 and Luke 10:27).

I tend to see it as the latter. Perhaps the title is misleading in that it implies self seeking, but the essence of the book is just the opposite. It is in serving that one gains gratification. Consider this gem on how to improve interaction with others..."Sometimes minor adjustments in your approach to people can make a major difference in the quality of your relationships. And your relationships have a direct impact on the quality of your life" (p. 163).

This book is full of wisdom from a woman who has learned how to improve the quality of life for herself and she is sharing those insights with her readers in a candid way. Basically she's talking about denying your selfishness and being open to God and other people.

On finding your destiny she writes, "Be prepared, because God is ready to fulfill the dreams and desires He's placed within your heart. He loves to restore opportunities that once seemed lost forever. And sometimes He brings those opportunities back in ways we haven't considered or weren't looking for" (p. 110).

I find this to be a powerful book full of encouraging wisdom on how to connect with God's purposes for your life. Jesus taught stewardship principles. The teachings here build on that foundation. I'll let Victoria have the last word, "You never know what door God will open for you as you begin to use what you have" (p. 101).
