Love, Hope and Encouragement for Life,
This review is from: Love Your Life: Living Happy, Healthy, and Whole (Hardcover)
Love your Life is a book writen in love, hope and compassion. It appears to me that Victoria wrote this book with the intent to help people improve their lives. The book feels like she is talking to you openly and trying to help you with life's challenges.
Victoria is an encourager and she discusses the importance of encouraging ourselves and others. She also encourages her readers to celebrate their successes big and small and celebrate other peoples successes with them. Some readers may learn a different way of looking at things. Everyone has unfair things that happen to them in their lives, and some people have more than others. The question is how can we deal with these bad things that happen and overcome them and live life fully and whole? Afterall, the challenges of today bring the opportunities of tomorrow. This book could be especially good for people (male or female) who feel inside themselves that they have to be perfect to be loved, or that they are unloveable or unworthy no matter what they do. We are each God's perfect creation and he loves us. God knows we are not perfect and he loves us despite our faults and our nature to sin. We are called to love our neighbor as ourself, but, if we do not love ourself than how much could we possibly love our neighbor? We must love ourselves before we can truly love others. Victoria guides the reader on a path of understanding that each person is important and has value. Victoria attempts to bring each reader to a place of God's love, hope, healing, freedom and peace in their lives. Victoria's advice is sound bibical advice and I believe that Christians and non Christians could bennefit from this book depending on the persons openness. At the end of each chapter she lists her main points as a quick referance e.g.; "I will focus on what I have and not what I don't have. I will dwell on what's right in my life and magnify the good." Depending on where you are in your life you may want to also look at the following books which are writen by different authors, and varying writing styles, but, address God's love for his people: Joyce Meyer's Battlefield of the Mind, William P. Young's The Shack and Francine Rivers Redeeming Love (novel). Happy reading.

Victoria Osteen provides heaven-sent advice to hard-working women for establishing an ideal, balanced life filled with blessed satisfactions while honoring God. Victoria's great devotion to her family will inspire you to be a more loving wife and mother. Positive thinking for women has never sounded so good or been more encouraging. Joel Osteen's fans will enjoy learning more about how Joel and Victoria set priorities, agree to disagree at home, and build a happier family. Men can learn from Victoria's perspectives on marriage, relationships, and parenting, as well.
The book is built around 11 themes, each of which is the subject of a chapter as follows: Chapter 1: Understanding Your Influence Chapter 2: Living with Confidence Chapter 3: Embracing What's Important Chapter 4: Keeping the Right Perspective Chapter 5: Making the Most of What You Have Chapter 6: Recovering Lost Opportunities Chapter 7: Overcoming Offenses Chapter 8: Enjoying Rich Relationships Chapter 9: Discovering What Others Need Chapter 10: Being a People Builder Chapter 11: Receiving Love Victoria Osteen's writing style is self-effacing, revealing, and generous. You'll feel like you are talking to her over a cup of coffee at her kitchen table. She provides a good balance between Biblical perspectives, practical common sense, and thoughtful consideration. Enjoy!

Wonderful inspiration to all! I cannot believe there are only 15 reviews at the time I am typing this. I really pray that more people would read this book and appreciate it as much as I do. This book has really helped in my personal growth and in becoming closer to God. Definitely feel more positive and have a brighter outlook on life! Thank you, Victoria! Wish I could give her a big hug for all the work she put into this book, for her positive influence on others and for all the unselfish ways she and Joel reach out to many :-)

Paradoxical It Seems to Me,
By
This review is from: Love Your Life: Living Happy, Healthy, and Whole (Hardcover)
Is Victoria Osteen teaching contrary to what Jesus taught? "For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel's the same shall save it," He says in Mark 8:35. Matthew 10:39 emphasizes the same principle. Or could it be that when Scripture is evaluated with Scripture in a broader context the subtle truth emerges, i.e., that what she's advocating in this book is the message that Jesus says summarizes all the law, i.e., to love God with all your heart, soul, and mind and love your neighbor as yourself (Matthew 22:37-40 and Luke 10:27).
I tend to see it as the latter. Perhaps the title is misleading in that it implies self seeking, but the essence of the book is just the opposite. It is in serving that one gains gratification. Consider this gem on how to improve interaction with others..."Sometimes minor adjustments in your approach to people can make a major difference in the quality of your relationships. And your relationships have a direct impact on the quality of your life" (p. 163). This book is full of wisdom from a woman who has learned how to improve the quality of life for herself and she is sharing those insights with her readers in a candid way. Basically she's talking about denying your selfishness and being open to God and other people. On finding your destiny she writes, "Be prepared, because God is ready to fulfill the dreams and desires He's placed within your heart. He loves to restore opportunities that once seemed lost forever. And sometimes He brings those opportunities back in ways we haven't considered or weren't looking for" (p. 110). I find this to be a powerful book full of encouraging wisdom on how to connect with God's purposes for your life. Jesus taught stewardship principles. The teachings here build on that foundation. I'll let Victoria have the last word, "You never know what door God will open for you as you begin to use what you have" (p. 101).

In a world where there is so much negativism, it is refreshing to hear what is right with the world. I enjoyed this book immensely and will listen to it again and again.

Make People a Priority,
By
This review is from: Love Your Life: Living Happy, Healthy, and Whole (Hardcover)
This book moves right along and gave me the feeling that Victoria was a friend chatting with me. It is packed with lots of good advice and is very encouraging and uplifting. I liked that she included summaries of "anchor thoughts" at the end of each chapter.
One thing that especially made an impact on me is to keep a list of everything I like about my husband and everything he does to make my life easier. Instead of keeping track of his mistakes, or things he did that made me mad, this will help me stay focused on his good points and help me not to forget these things.

By loving your life, you make others happy, too!,
This review is from: Love Your Life: Living Happy, Healthy, and Whole (Hardcover)
I would like to thank Victoria for sharing her thoughtful insight and wisdom in this book. I appreciated the personal, inspirational stories that were shared. I was able to make personal connections through her shared stories. These connections helped me to gain insight and resolution to daily battles that I (along with others) struggle with in my journey through life. Her words are simple, yet they contain so much depth. There are everyday lessons to be learned in this book which can truly enrich your life as they did mine. I believe it is so important to Love Your Life and Live Happy, Healthy and Whole. As Dennis Prager writes, happiness is not a selfish concern...it is a moral obligation.

Victoria Osteen's book is like getting the best advice in the world from your mother. She covers relationships, parenting, God, as if she's sitting with you and you're her best friend. I'm a newlywed and learned a TON from her stories about her and Joel and have applied her advice in my own life. This is one of those books you should read every so often just to keep yourself balanced.

Says the same thing her husband says,
This review is from: Love Your Life: Living Happy, Healthy, and Whole (Paperback)
I enjoy listening to Joel Osteen and get a lot out of his words. I picked up Victoria Osteen's book to see what she had to say and I felt like I was reading a summarized version of Joel Osteen's Your Best Life Now. There are many parts in her book that read almost exactly as his with a few things thrown in of her own. While it never hurts to be reminded of thinking good thoughts, I was expecting her to use more of her own words instead of parroting her husband.
