From Booklist

After her coach overturns, a mysterious stranger rescues the recently widowed Brianna Cameron and takes her back to his isolated cottage to recover from her injuries. The only information Brianna learns from the badly scarred stranger is that his name is Royce and he has come to the cottage seeking solitude after fighting in a terrible battle. By the time Brianna is recovered enough to return to her family, she is in love with the warrior whose fierce exterior hides a gentle soul. Royce surprises her with an offer of marriage, which Brianna joyfully accepts, but once she learns Royce's true identity, the news nearly tears the couple apart. As their wedding is finally about to take place, one more surprise awaits: Brianna's supposedly deceased abusive husband returns to claim his wife. While the story's slow start may deter some readers, this historical romance might be a good choice for those who enjoyed Fletcher's previous book, Isle of Lies (2002), featuring Brianna's brother, Ian, or for fans of romances set in the Scottish Highlands. Plot:
Brianna is forced by circumstance to rely on Royce. But when she learns his true identity will she be able to accept all she learnt as truth, or will she shy from him, and deny them both a HEA?

Comments:
- Historical (Medieval) Romance. Scotland, 1513, near the Isle of Mull.
- 6177 kindle locations, 341 pages
- m/f - not overly frequent, but reasonably explicit.
- Characters from Book 1 appear and play a role, however this book would comfortably stand alone. It picks up around 6 months after Book 1.
- Brianna is a survivor of domestic abuse. Her abuse was discussed in Book 1. It is a part of her by Book 2 - directs and colours her view of herself and of men. However, she has been "recovering" for some months and has rediscovered an inner strength.

Opinion:
"Aye, warriors have the strongest of souls. They protect the weaker souls and do what must be done for the sake of freedom. Life can be cruel without warriors; complete chaos would reign and no one would know peace." p.33, loc599

The first half of the book is rather unexpected in a Medieval; Snowed-in-with-him is a more contemporary trope. Trapped together as she recovers from severe injuries, forced to rely upon each other for all their needs. Strangers in all things but how they behave with each other. She a survivor of abuse, he needing to learn to love. Exploring healing, caring and forgiveness - of self and of others. Typically contemporary but timeless in this telling.

"Fate works in strange ways. To question it would be foolish; to accept it would be wise. I accept us without question." p.149, loc2626

Second half takes a more typical Medieval turn as Royce and Brianna accept their new love in the real world, and how to live with the choices made.

A badly scarred warrior rescues a woman from a coach accident and tends her serious wounds in a remote cabin. They both have mental and physical wounds that need to heal.
Of course they help each other.

I thought that this was a complex story of relationships, secrets, identity, loyalty, and love. I have thoroughly enjoyed these related stories.

I just discovered Donna Fletcher's books, got this on Kindle and liked it so much, I bought the paperback to keep with my favorite
romances...I kind of read them out of order, and had to go back and buy the other books that go with this one...they are all good...
The hero in this book is a man's man, but boy is he gentle with his Lady....you just fall in love with him....you want their romance
to work so much...You can read the other reviews to know what happens in more detail...

I am not hard to please, this book touched me so much...this book can stand alone, but you will enjoy the back story in the other
books that go with this one....I love the word "MINE"...My own sweet husband has been saying it to me for years! There is nothing
like a good book on a cool day...and a cup of coffee or tea to enjoy it with....Happy Reading!!

This is the second in a series by Donna Fletcher. It follows Brianna, Ian Camerson's sister, and Royce, a mysterious stranger, that cares for her after a horrific accident. He himself has been injured in a recent battle and is horribly disfigured. However, they soon find that time can heal all wounds both those visible and unseen. There were alot of surprises in this story and many twists and turns, although some predictable. This is a highly romantic story, filled with many heated moments between the two many characters. They are not afraid to express their feelings or desires towards one another. I completely enjoyed the story and look forward to reading more by this author.

Summary:

Left for dead after a carriage accident, Brianna Cameron wakes to find herself in a one-room cottage with a tall, dark, and badly scarred man tending her wounds. Once a fierce warrior who charmed many a woman into bed, he is now a broken man, shattered by war. But caring for Brianna seems to heal the scars on his soul...and open his heart to the redemptive power of love.

I really enjoyed this story from beginning to end. It was sweet and funny with just the right touch of romance & drama. The characters are very likable if not loveable .This is a story about a woman overcoming her fear of a bad marriage & a warrior that finds his heart & soul .They both find strength in loving & being loved .I was sad when it was over and that is the best kind of story .The ones you get lost in !!!!

Brianna, a recent widow, wakes from an accident to find herself being nursed by a frightening man with a scarred face. Yet, as she comes to know Royce, she finds that this warrior is in need of as much healing as she, and that he is handsome in ways she never dreamed.
Over the weeks of their mutual recuperation, the two grow closer together, falling in love with each passing day. When they return to the real world, Royce's greatest desire is to wed his lady. However, she is reluctant, believing herself barren, and also only recently recovered from living with a monstrous husband. Just when it appears that they could have all they dreamed of, Brianna and Royce's world is threatened by a terrible remainder of the past.
***** In a sensual and exciting retelling of Beauty and the Beast for adults, Ms. Fletcher charmingly weaves a magical tale of love and healing that will touch your heart. *****
