Bittersweet and Charming, August 19, 2010
I found this to be a very engaging and enjoyable read. I don't know how much of that is because I remember the author from long ago, how much is because I find stories about fumbling young love to be endlessly entertaining, or how much is because it is well written. But it doesn't matter because all three are true, and I liked it.
My only criticism would be that I found the finale to be a little abrupt. Though the style is that of a journal and it covers up to the present, I had hoped for a bit more exploration of what was learned over the years, and more about his theories on love after the adventures.
In any case, it was well written, heartfelt, and entertaining. I look forward to future writings.

A great book for those who are in love and those who want to find it, April 23, 2010
This review is from: Love through the Eyes of an Idiot: A True Story of Finding the Secret of Love, Sex, and Romance (Paperback)
Misinformation and misunderstanding when it comes to relationships is nothing new to me. Yet, I doubt I would've picked this book off the the shelf now; after all, I'm happy, so why spend time reading about how another person found love? OK, so that establishes my bias going in to this book. I didn't expect such a great storyteller to emerge, and I was pleasantly surprised.
This is what I enjoy about meeting authors-every now and then (often, lately), they surprise me. As a reader, I am not easy company to keep. My reviews only reflect books I finish, and let me assure you, I finish only a fraction of those I open or sample.
As I read Love through the Eyes of an Idiot I caught myself nodding in places as though I were in conversation with the author. I could relate to so many of the blunders and subsequent insights (gender aside). What's more, I admire a memoirist who can own up to his faults and mistakes, who is able to examine his own actions without making excuses. Making oneself the hero of a book is a hell of a lot easier than examining the human condition (there is no formula or clear plot outline for real life!). This endearing and well-written tale is a very human, down to earth, and downright enjoyable read.

A fun and inspiring read, February 2, 2010
This review is from: Love through the Eyes of an Idiot: A True Story of Finding the Secret of Love, Sex, and Romance (Paperback)
I enjoyed reading J. Timothy King's memoir about how he found love. It contains interesting little stories about falling in and out of love and everyone will be able to relate to how difficult it is to secure a happy and fulfilling relationship. I consider myself to still be in the 'idiot' stage, being single and not having a clue about relationships! It was nice to get some insight from someone who has found 'true love', perhaps in a way that I would not have thought was the normal course of things, having been brought up watching romantic movies and reading romantic books...
I would recommend this book to all fellow idiots in love, and anyone who struggles on a daily basis to understand how the opposite sex's minds work. LOL. It was enlightening and fun to read, and very inspirational.
