Editorial Reviews

Although many relationship advice columns exist, LoveScience is the only one that presents not only what to do and how to do it—but the science behind the advice. Now a best-seller in the relationship and behavioral science categories at Amazon.com, LoveScience is also available at www.LoveScienceMedia.com.

Its author, Duana C. Welch, Ph.D., (pronounced DWAY-nah) is known for using social science to solve real-life relationship issues. Her first book, Love Factually: 10 Proven Steps from I Wish to I Do (2015) is the first to apply social science to every phase of dating. She also teaches psychology at Austin, Texas universities, has twice been voted Professor of the Year, and received a NISOD Teaching Excellence award in 2012. Duana resides with her husband, daughter, and assorted critters. She enjoys embracing her inner nerd, hiking with her dog, and sampling dark chocolate.

For further information, please email her at Duana@LoveScienceMedia.com.

Kindle blogs are fully downloaded onto your Kindle so you can read them even when you're not wirelessly connected. And unlike RSS readers which often only provide headlines, blogs on Kindle give you full text content and images, and are updated wirelessly throughout the day.

As a social psychologist, I know much of the science on love and relationships, and I appreciate that Dr. Welch goes to great lengths to accurately summarize the research while still making the column accessible to a wider audience. Her representation and application of the science is right on target. As a husband and avid reader, I find her Love Science columns insightful, witty, and most of all useful. I like how she applies the scientific findings to everyday relationship problems without moralizing or distorting the data to fit a particular religious or political conclusion. Amidst the pollution of pop "psychologists" with agendas instead of knowledge, Dr. Welch's Love Science is a breath of fresh air.

5.0 out of 5 stars A friend and a genuine fan July 20, 2009
I first met Duana as her client several years ago, and she has now become one of my most trusted and valued friends, probably for the same reasons that her column is so spectacular. Duana infuses herself into her Love Science column, and that quality is what makes the grounded, practical, science-based advice so special and different from other love advice columnists out there. Duana is a giving, genuine, funny woman that tells you how she sees it...and she'll make her case with scientific data, human psychological tendencies and warm, helpful advice delivered with a humorous punch. When I read these columns, I so easily identify with the scenarios she's addressing, and the beautiful thing is that I can go to my husband, say "hey, here's what we're doing wrong!" and we can laugh about it while still recognizing where there is room for improvement. Duana's columns provide an easy (and often humorous) opportunity for couples and individuals to recognize where there is room for improvement without being on the defensive about what they have done "wrong." Duana, I sense wonderful things coming out of this column, and to all of Duana's new fans reading this column for the first time, you've found a gem of a resource!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Demise of the Snark July 14, 2009
All humans who are interested in improving their relationships with other humans should read this blog. It's actual real useful information about relationships, but with a warm personal feel. It's science-based, yes, but with lots of hear. Whatever the opposite of bee-ess is, this is it!

Just as important, it's completely non-snarky! NO snark, NO pointed sarcasm, NO nasty attitude of superiority. Yes, I love my snarky columnists as much as anybody, but isn't it about time someone addressed real problems with a helpful attitude full of both brains AND heart? The letters and comments from readers are answered with warmth and wit instead of snideness. Plus THE ADVICE IS GOOD!!!!!! Trust me, I've been there and back as far as relationships go, and this is the good stuff!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Science With a Bit of Sass October 15, 2010
By mock
Love Science is awesome! I've read every column since the very first one, and look forward to my "Wednesdays with Dr. Welch" (or The Love Doctor, as we -- pretty much all of her followers -- refer to her). What Dr. Welch has to say flies in the face of typical relationship advice because she tells you "what IS" instead of "what ought to be". It is shocking to be confronted with scientific data that often support the fears we have when it comes to our love-relationships, and the good doctor is quick to help us navigate the awkwardness of these hard truths, so we can end up being winners at what easily feels like a losing game. Dr. Welch has a kind (and sometimes irreverent) way of educating us, and what makes her truly unique is her genuine interest in reader feedback. Her Q&A section is not to be missed as she goes above and beyond to thoroughly address each comment with a fresh and insightful response. Thank you, Love Doctor, for creating such a fantastic column.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoughtful, thought-provoking, entertaining April 19, 2010
This is the advice that your most trusted friend would give you, if only your trusted friend kept up with psychology and science literature. The science Dr. D employs to build her advice is comprehensive and nuanced, but she is able to wrap potentially complicated and certainly controversial information in a witty, compassionate, and completely understandable package. And, recognizing that even the most clear article is bound to bring up questions, Dr. D actively participates in the questions/answer style comments section. If you thrive on snark and absolutism, this isn't your place. But if you appreciate reasonable conversation on topics that are relevant as well as fascinating, you'll eagerly anticipate your biweekly "talk" with Dr. D.

Regardless of your relationship status, Dr. D provides information that all of us need in order to create and sustain our happiest state of being. This is highly recommended reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars Professional Advice in Layman terms September 13, 2009
By T. Chin
As a new member to the Kindle community, I found a haven in Dr Duana Welch's Blog;LOVE SCIENCE MEDIA; After reading Duana's profoundly honest and down to earth articles and reader responces; I felt comfortable enough to trust Duana's advice; I reached out to Duana to assist me in a personal matter that has been troubling me my entire adult life; I was reluctant to read Duana's email or rather the bad news; but Duana's responce was from her heart; and filled with reinforcing statistic that made me comfortable enough to accept my dilemma and move on with life; to find a loving relationship with a better understanding that what I fear is a minor issue compared to what a woman really wants in a relationship.... Duana thank you for giving me the strength to face this dilemna and move on to something more positive.......
