Editorial Reviews

2012 debut album from the British Indie singer/songwriter. Charles has been described as ''an epic guy who is too cool for the charts''. He's a multi-instrumentalist as well as a classically trained singer. Having been writing music since he was 17, in 2010 he won the International Songwriting competition.

Track Review

King Charles is a pop/indie/folk artist that tends to jump around genres and experiment with pop goodness
He is a mustached man dressed in Victorian styled clothes while sporting a long mangled head of hair. His character is definitely likable, and fits his lyrical tendencies of massive metaphors and love stories galore
His skills are definitely his catchy musical chord progressions and his rather intelligent lyrical mindset, he plays around a lot but in the process he makes deep yet very catchy pop songs (which not a lot of artists can do)

My opinion on each track (feel free to disagree in the comment section!)

#1 LoveBlood - 4.5 stars - A nice start to the album, energetic, very Vampire Weekend-esque

#2 Mississippi Isabel - 5 stars - A cute piano filled love song with a random electric guitar, very pop/indie/folk

#3 BamBam - 5 stars - Upbeat song with belting vocals and amazing energy, another pop hit

#4 LoveLust - 5 stars - Starts off as a serious love song with a simplistic sound/piano, gets into a rocking guitar and bass synth that really sets the song off

#5 Polar Bear - 2 stars - Starts off interesting/sexy, cool instrumentation until the chorus which is filled with lame lyrics and a synth that sounds like it is directly out of GarageBand/Fl Studio. His weakest song by far, lacks his usual, solid musical/lyrical prowess

#6 Lady Percy - 4.5 stars - So fun, a love story about a girl we don't know much about other than she builds guns, fixes cars, and breaks hearts. He has awesome steel drums on this track, really reminds me of a Disney song in a good, not cheesy way. Not as rocking as his 5 star songs.

#7 Ivory Road - 4.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I expected October 11, 2013

I had heard of few of his songs, but wasn't familiar with them all - when I listened to the entire CD I was not disappointed. His songs are upbeat, catchy, and I love that the CD comes with the lyrics printed inside.

5.0 out of 5 stars Refreshing, like nothing I have heard before. July 9, 2013
By PtyFL21
Format:Audio CD
I stumbled upon King Charles by listening to one of his songs on my friends car and just going wow! Who is this?! The song turned out to be "Love Lust" one of his first singles. I started listening to all of his songs on youtube, and I knew I needed to buy this album. I am so glad I did. His sound is like nothing I have heard before, the best way I can explain it is pop meets reggae. His voice is very much like reggae but his sound mixes different genres. If you are looking for a new sound, something refreshing, that will just make you happy buy this album. You wont regret it.

4.0 out of 5 stars The pop I love, but miss June 21, 2013
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I bought this after hearing it on Spotify. This is a pop style I love. My kids automatically heard Vampire Weekend in the sound. King Charles (aka Charles Costa) uses Afro-pop guitar licks like they do. But my roots go back farther. Early Sparks. Beatle songs like Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da or Octopus's Garden. The melodies and harmonic layers just flow. I hope there are more albums to come.
