Now many bands while attempting to piece together a "greatest hits" album will not even begin to think of fan favorites. Or give a well rounded record of there work but just put the hits on here. Cradle of filth do not do this here. The tracks are choosen very well and gives a good over look of cof's career. It also has a booklet describing cof's career up to the point of its release(02)

Cradle of Filth has been my favorite band since I randomly picked out their powerhouse album "Cruelty And The Beast" almost a year ago. I have since devoured every album they've produced, most notably the shatteringly ground-breaking "Midian." With this compilation of noteworthy cuts as well as some rare stuff, namely the "Red October" mix of "Thirteen Autumns And A Widow," one of my all-time favorite songs, COF have permanently established themselves, IMO, as one of the most musically gifted, lyrically amazing black metal outfits in the genre. The import edition of this CD includes an amazing poster with ALL the lyrics to every cut on the album. That alone makes this a worthy buy, so if the US edition includes it, you'd do well to pick it up. EVERY song, with the exception, IMO, of the dismal "Twisting Further Nails" remix (techno does not belong in COF), absolutely rips. From the blood-curdling "Beneath The Howling Stars" to the chilling "Her Ghost In The Fog" to the pinnacle of COF's amazing career, IMO, "Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids," "Lovecraft And Witch Hearts" will give you sonic pleasure undreamed of. Even if you have all the albums, buy this; the rare cuts make this a shining gem to add to your collection. I'm glad COF released this to sate the ravenous appetite of the fans who are desperately awaiting the forthcoming new album. For the COF newcomer, this CD will give you an excellent introduction to the unparalleled black metal cutting-edge sound of which COF are pioneers. Buy this immediately!

Brilliant "best of" by the current joint leaders in black metal (Dimmu Borgir being the other). The first disc "Lovecraft" is a collection of some of COF best songs to date, while the second is a collection of covers ranging from Celtic Frost and Sodom, to Slayer and Iron Maiden. I would definantly recommend this album to COF fans and new listeners alike.

I really like dark and disturbing movies. I mean Hellraiser, Angel Heart, and The Ninth Gate are some of my favorites. Now I am beginning to like dark and disturbing music. Not too long ago a friend of mine introduced me to Cradle of Filth. Though I am not a huge fan of the group, I found a liking for some of their dark, disturbing music. Basically if you took the movie Hellraiser and put it into music form, Cradle of Filth would be the result. Their mixture of harmonic keyboards and death metal vocals is really unique though often imitated. Their music is like pleasure and pain rolled into one. I can see why they are gaining a huge following. I myself can only take so much Death Metal vocals before I tire of it. It's just a personal preference and so that is why this "best of" collection will do me just fine. I get all I want of the group in one collection. I also found to my liking is that this collection contains 2 covers, Slayer's Hell Awaits and Iron Maiden's Hallowed Be Thy Name. I found these covers to be great, especially Hallowed Be Thy Name which is the best Iron Maiden cover I have ever heard. This collection overall is a perfect purchase for anyone who wants to here the dark side of music.

For your information my friend, Cradle Of Filth are not Satanist, they are Dark Pagans.Satanism in fact has it's ties to paganism, and I believe that you all should know well enough that Dani is only using the name of Satan to rebel against authority, the entire purpose metal was written for.Not just metal, but rock music in general. Cradle of filth like to put on great shows, that is why there is all the make up and odd clothing.I suppose your band would just go out looking like normal jeans and t-shirt guys if u had a band right? No, people like to have fun, dare I say it, and going out there and putting on a great live show dates back to KISS ALIVE. Have u read Dani's lyrics even? He knows far more than you think.Just because you can't handle someone's voice you diss the musical aspect? Please stop dissing this great and very talented band (They are more talented musically than many of the popular bands of today :Slipknot,Lamb Of God,Shadows Fall exc.)But, if you want toknow, many of Dani's Lyrics are based on Pagan themes ie:The Black Goddess (The dark form of the goddess brigantia)and "Satan" is actually a blasphemed name of Pan created by the church. Dani refers to this aspect because it reflects his music. Many many songs have to do with the practice of witchcraft, and ancient celtic legends in a darker format.Saying this band does not reflect paganism is a foolish gesture and I must tell you to simply read the lyrics. They are far more intelligent than emotional problems ie:My girlfriend's a whore or I'm a lonely kid that no one likes these slipknot style lyrics.I have all 3 Slipknot albums I know the lyrics,I'm a vocalist myself. NOW PLEASE STOP DISSING THIS FREAKING BAND!
