5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best greatest hits I have purchased
Now many bands while attempting to piece together a "greatest hits" album will not even begin to think of fan favorites. Or give a well rounded record of there work but just put the hits on here. Cradle of filth do not do this here. The tracks are choosen very well and gives a good over look of cof's career. It also has a booklet describing cof's career up to...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not great
Unlike most reviewers who I see reviewing this album, I have been a COF fan for a very long time. As a matter of fact, my first COF albums was a cassette tape of Principle. When I started listening to COF, the band was unknown. You COULD NOT pick up their album at wal-marts. And the band really didnt play in the U.S at all. (They were actually banned). Now on the the...

5.0 out of 5 stars Mindblowing for veterans and newcomers alike, June 12, 2002

Cradle of Filth has been my favorite band since I randomly picked out their powerhouse album "Cruelty And The Beast" almost a year ago. I have since devoured every album they've produced, most notably the shatteringly ground-breaking "Midian." With this compilation of noteworthy cuts as well as some rare stuff, namely the "Red October" mix of "Thirteen Autumns And A Widow," one of my all-time favorite songs, COF have permanently established themselves, IMO, as one of the most musically gifted, lyrically amazing black metal outfits in the genre. The import edition of this CD includes an amazing poster with ALL the lyrics to every cut on the album. That alone makes this a worthy buy, so if the US edition includes it, you'd do well to pick it up. EVERY song, with the exception, IMO, of the dismal "Twisting Further Nails" remix (techno does not belong in COF), absolutely rips. From the blood-curdling "Beneath The Howling Stars" to the chilling "Her Ghost In The Fog" to the pinnacle of COF's amazing career, IMO, "Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids," "Lovecraft And Witch Hearts" will give you sonic pleasure undreamed of. Even if you have all the albums, buy this; the rare cuts make this a shining gem to add to your collection. I'm glad COF released this to sate the ravenous appetite of the fans who are desperately awaiting the forthcoming new album. For the COF newcomer, this CD will give you an excellent introduction to the unparalleled black metal cutting-edge sound of which COF are pioneers. Buy this immediately!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, June 24, 2004

Brilliant "best of" by the current joint leaders in black metal (Dimmu Borgir being the other). The first disc "Lovecraft" is a collection of some of COF best songs to date, while the second is a collection of covers ranging from Celtic Frost and Sodom, to Slayer and Iron Maiden. I would definantly recommend this album to COF fans and new listeners alike.

5.0 out of 5 stars The ultimate testament to Filth..........., August 9, 2005
By
This review is from: Lovecraft & Witch Hearts (Audio CD)
Lovecraft and Witchhearts is an excellent representation of the greatest metal band. The sounds of the album sprawl from the edgy screaming and black sound that COF is known for, to melodic music that makes them a one of a kind band. The Album includes a bonus disc with some music unreleased prior to this cd, and the return of some filthy classics. Buy it; its good.

4.0 out of 5 stars A disturbing dark trip down music lane, February 16, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Lovecraft & Witch Hearts (Audio CD)
I really like dark and disturbing movies. I mean Hellraiser, Angel Heart, and The Ninth Gate are some of my favorites. Now I am beginning to like dark and disturbing music. Not too long ago a friend of mine introduced me to Cradle of Filth. Though I am not a huge fan of the group, I found a liking for some of their dark, disturbing music. Basically if you took the movie Hellraiser and put it into music form, Cradle of Filth would be the result. Their mixture of harmonic keyboards and death metal vocals is really unique though often imitated. Their music is like pleasure and pain rolled into one. I can see why they are gaining a huge following. I myself can only take so much Death Metal vocals before I tire of it. It's just a personal preference and so that is why this "best of" collection will do me just fine. I get all I want of the group in one collection. I also found to my liking is that this collection contains 2 covers, Slayer's Hell Awaits and Iron Maiden's Hallowed Be Thy Name. I found these covers to be great, especially Hallowed Be Thy Name which is the best Iron Maiden cover I have ever heard. This collection overall is a perfect purchase for anyone who wants to here the dark side of music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great compilation, August 2, 2002
This review is from: Lovecraft & Witch Hearts (Audio CD)
What can I say? This double disc set has some of Cradle of Filth's best material and I thought it was put together rather well. The second disc is especially great because you get to hear a couple rare tracks, a few re-mixes and a bunch of cover songs. The first disc basically has 11 of CoF's most famous songs. A real plus for this album is the booklet. It tells you the tale of Cradle of Filth from when they just started up until now. Also the pictures are really cool. All in all, if you have every Cradle of Filth CD already this PROBABLY isnt necessary but if you are a diehard fan(like me) or you are just getting into CoF this compilation will not disappoint.

I am a huge death/black metal fan, and i have to ay i DO love CoF. They arent "True" black metal but who the hall cares!!???? They have incredible musiciansship and songs that are just plain amazing! I love Burzum, Darkthrone, Nile, Gorgoroth....etc... this is just as good! If you are only into heavy "True" black metal thats cool...but you have to admit that CoF HAS skills...even if you dont like them.

5.0 out of 5 stars This goes out to the satanist guy who is dissing COF, June 14, 2005
By
This review is from: Lovecraft & Witch Hearts (Audio CD)
For your information my friend, Cradle Of Filth are not Satanist, they are Dark Pagans.Satanism in fact has it's ties to paganism, and I believe that you all should know well enough that Dani is only using the name of Satan to rebel against authority, the entire purpose metal was written for.Not just metal, but rock music in general. Cradle of filth like to put on great shows, that is why there is all the make up and odd clothing.I suppose your band would just go out looking like normal jeans and t-shirt guys if u had a band right? No, people like to have fun, dare I say it, and going out there and putting on a great live show dates back to KISS ALIVE. Have u read Dani's lyrics even? He knows far more than you think.Just because you can't handle someone's voice you diss the musical aspect? Please stop dissing this great and very talented band (They are more talented musically than many of the popular bands of today :Slipknot,Lamb Of God,Shadows Fall exc.)But, if you want toknow, many of Dani's Lyrics are based on Pagan themes ie:The Black Goddess (The dark form of the goddess brigantia)and "Satan" is actually a blasphemed name of Pan created by the church. Dani refers to this aspect because it reflects his music. Many many songs have to do with the practice of witchcraft, and ancient celtic legends in a darker format.Saying this band does not reflect paganism is a foolish gesture and I must tell you to simply read the lyrics. They are far more intelligent than emotional problems ie:My girlfriend's a whore or I'm a lonely kid that no one likes these slipknot style lyrics.I have all 3 Slipknot albums I know the lyrics,I'm a vocalist myself. NOW PLEASE STOP DISSING THIS FREAKING BAND!

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, May 16, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Lovecraft & Witch Hearts (Audio CD)
This cd is not a greatest hits, it's more of a mess-of collection, said Dani Filth. All of the tracks are excellent, except for the techno remixes on the second disc. In my opinion, Cradle of Filth is not supposed to be techno. The instrumentals are great, including "Creatures that Kissed in Cold Mirrors" and "Carmella's Masque". I especially liked the cover of Iron Maiden's "Hallowed Be Thy Name", I think it's definetly worth picking up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cradle rocks my world, December 7, 2003
This review is from: Lovecraft & Witch Hearts (Audio CD)
okie dokie Cradle of filth tottally did an Awesome job on this. Mr. Dani Filth's voice can range from a possesed snake to like a deep pycho murderer. its very sexy. The lyrics are very dark and twisted (but thats what makes it so great) the thrashing guitars and the double bass (thats a drummy thingy...) and the symphony tottaly ROCK. the best songs have to be lord abortion (necrophila kinda song), cradle to enslave, of dark blood and F@*#&ing and hallowed be thy name. actually theyre all good. its very insperational music for those who do creepy fun art. BUY or i will slaughter. oh dont let the rents read the lyrics. they will have a heart attack.
